No, they mean before that. That Aang was dead when Katara tried to heal the wound on Aang's back, Aang was dead at that point. But, then she brought him back.

Alright, let's look at it this way. Aang was shot down when activating the Avatar state. That however, is the only aspect I can see that would be debatable. I'm contesting that the activation wasn't even complete and I would be surprised if the final chakra wasn't even unlocked.?? Supposedly that is what Nick.com is sticking to. Above all else, though, you have to realize ONE thing. Katara cannot bring people back to life. Yes, she is a very, Very, VERY powerful master water bender and she is able to heal people. Nowhere, though, has anyone said that waterbenders can cure death! Not only do I think that the power to bring someone back to life should never be bestowed upon a NON-Avatar, but I would think that it would be a bit beyond the reach of ANY bender in the first place. Personally, I would imagine that bringing someone back to life would consist of a trip to the spirit world to retrieve the actual spirit on the other side and convincing other very powerful spirits to release the person in question. No matter how sacred it might be, I highly doubt it would be as simple as using a bit of water from the South Pole's spirit oasis. Last but not least, you can see that the mark on Aang's back was not a hole. Why? You can see another scorch mark on the bottom of his right foot. His back is where the electricity entered and the bottom of his right foot is where it exited. All electricity has a fairly direct path when electrocuting someone, a starting and ending point through the body. When given a large jolt of electricity one can be rendered unconcious as well. Not uncommon. In conclusion.....no death occured in my honest and unbiased opinion. Yes, I could see how many could perceive him as "dying" or "dead" (Even though the two are very, very different and seperate states. Just like how you can't be just a little bit pregnant, LOL) considering he was NOT able to support his own weight when Katara dragged him out of the cave. None the less, I think my evidence proves my point. |
Why can't Katara bring Aang back with that Spirit Oasis water? Doctors bring people back to life all the time. When you flatline on a hospital bed that means your heart stops beating, making you techincally dead. But, if the doctors can restart your heart you can be brought back to life. Not impossible for us normal humans all we need is energy to stimulate the muscles in the heart to beat again. Aang's the spiritual bridge so I'm certain that water with "special properties" could work some mumbo jumbo and use??spiritual energy??to??restart his heart. It has to be, since we know that Aang was dead when Katara did the water thing.??Unless now??we're going to debate Aang's level of deadness?

I didn't know doctors watched this show! Jk very nice though, it was...informative. And the sacred water is from the north pole not the south. |

well I guess this should end the did he or didn't he debate here as well... as found on message #1116 in the thread Official Discussion: The Guru/The Crossroads of Destiny (12/1 - Spoilers)

Might seem a bit out of the blue...but I have received official word.... Aang did in fact die, and Katara revived him. |
Seems quite odd that they would give so much power to a 14 yr old waterbender with some special oasis water but hey, I guess now all we can speculate is was he indeed in the avatar state at the exact time of death OR as speculated on the nick.com website he did not master it therefore the avatar spirit should still be intact... dunno..
p.s. also if she was able to heal a dead person, why did she walk away from a dying person (JET) with a look of despair... you would think she could heal somebody who was dying with regular water if she could heal the dead with special water
She probably WAS going to heal Jet but Longshot told her there wasn't any time and that he and Smellerbee would take care of Jet. Though I don't know if Katara heard Toph when she said "He's lying."

Besides everything else, the "official" website and Nick itself have always been a little off. For example, if you go to that same place you suggested to visit you'll read that it says somewhere that Zuko says: "It's over avatar...capturing you has always been my destiny." and supposedly Aang replies: "You've got your destiny...and I've got mine." and then goes into the avatar state.??Not only was that lame, but it never happened. Also if you read more about the story you'll see it says Aang was mortally wounded, mortal meaning: causing or liable to cause death; fatal, which in my interpretation would mean that he had died; like I said before, you can still save someone's life by bringing them BACK to life. Besides, he was all limp and what not and had he was hit with lightning, not only do most people die from being struck by lightning, but look where he was hit, right in the back, the chances of him surviving that are slim to none. Plus, that big Aang died which was probably symbolic, and in the beginning of the show it stressed that if Aang died in the avatar state it would cease to exist.
Again, I'd just like to add that Nick is almost never right about these things, example:
Nick has NO idea what they're doing.
