Since rabid Zutarians are liable to burst in soon angrily screaming about what the guru said, I'd like to point out something about that. According to the Guru, the whole point of unlocking the 7th chakra was to sever whatever it was that attached Aang to the world, AKA, Aang must become detached. The Guru's credo was that he was an associate of the Air Nomads, who detach themselves from the world as a way of life. But in "The Old Masters", Avatar Yang Chen said quite clearly that the avatar must never allow himself to become detached from the world, indeed, doing so was liable to invite disaster. We can assume that an avatar knows more about the AS than a guru, so that settles that.
And on topic, I quite literally cried during that kiss scene. Words like "beautiful" and "poetic" don't even begin to do it justice. It has been clear for a long time that Katara and Aang were meant to be, and they both know it. We saw in EIP that Katara understood what attachment meant; that they needed to resolve the affairs of the world before they could become distracted by eachother. But now that the war is over, there is nothing to hold them apart.
Once i stopped crying, I ran around outside screaming things like "Yes!", "Go Aang!", and "Yip Yip!" for several hours. Then I jumped into the swimming pool and spend about half an hour floating on my back crying again, mostly with joy, partly with mourning, and all with genuine feeling.
