At the end of the crossroads of destiny episode, Aang was struck with electricity. It showed a quick scene where the presumed avatar spirit fell sideways away and he seemed to die, thus signifying the death of Aang. Katara's healing water from the North Pole brought Aang back to life, but do you think the avatar spirit is dead as well, or did it come back to life with the re-awakening of Aang? Does this mean that the Avatar cycle has been broken if the avatar spirit dies? And if this is so, do you think the writers are trying to set up a conclusion that feeds into the real world, like "the powers of the benders were lost, and new age began" type thing?
