or was Aang only being ironic in "The Drill".?? It might be that bending metal is possible if you are able to bend earth and fire simultaneosly. also what about??someting along the line of control over the life-force itslef (Spiritbending?Soulbending?) The fact remains that most elemental systems have five elements, not four. ????

There are no metalbenders. Firebenders probably have something like a centrifuge that separates metals from nonmetals in molten rock.

Earthbenders can bend metal, but it has to be natural metals in the rock. Once it is altered by man, it cannot be bent. Here, I quote from the Nick.com Avatar site: "Earthbending's most significant weakness is its inability to manipulate man altered metals. Firbenders exploit this weakness by smelting metal to remove it natural impurities, and then using it to construct their armor, ships, and forts." That is why. Here's a link for you to check yourself:??http://www.nick.com/all_nick/tv_supersites/avatar2/index.jhtml?gquit=true. Click on one of the nation symbols in the corner of the map, then click on "The Bending Arts" and then scroll down to Earthbending.

When Aang said "What'd I've give to be a Metalbender." that was probably just fan service cuz alot of people(not just at this site, but other places) have been debating about Metalbending. Just like the Katara swin scene in "Serpent's Pass" that was probably fan service too...

yeah it is not real it would kind of ruin the siries if it was because it is all about the four elemenrts, but if it was (which it is not) Aang would be able to bend it because he can bend all the elements or what ever is possible to bend.
