(here... I'll give you one... how about the fact that the Dai Li used metal handcuffs on Long Feng, but used rock hand-cuffs on Toph and Aang even though they knew they could earthbend) in reference to the episode "The Earth King" ... makes no sense...

actually, the dai lee couldnt have used the metal cuffs, cause of the short range of the cuffs, and also the dai lee needed for to be behind them in order to use them. earth cuffs are the next best alternative.
Also they used the metal cuffs on Long Feng, they wanted to give the earth king the impression that the are really arresting him. (since everybody knows Feng can easily get out of the earth cuffs)
