I love this thread. There's something about the gentle wisdom of Iroh and his tea that I think embodies the spirit of Avatar at heart, and helps you see just what made you really fall in love with the show in the first place. Personally, I think that Iroh trumps the "Wise Mentors" in all other epic legends. Gandalf and Yoda get swept off the floor. Dumbledore is close, but in the end even he is simply no match for Iroh as far as awsomeness is concerned.

I think you're absolutely right about that. The other wise characters are canon, but Iroh's got his own story.

I like that you noticed that. I think tea has something to do with it.

I find a personal and happy satifaction from appreciating tea. Tea appreciation to me, is an art.

    Ok, hows this?

When I saw it, I was like, ZOMG WFT? I loled. What do you think? XD

That picture will haunt me for the rest of the day...

    lol

My favorite time for tea would be a bit before Dafoose's.

Mine is during both Twilights where it's not too hot and the coolness of the air feels good with a warm stomach.

    What would Iroh do?

He'd do what is right against the odds.

Ok, well, DO you think Iroh's strength sometimes came from his tea? 0_o

Lmao, I'm fried for brainstorming right now. Somebody want to help me out?

I don't think he draws strength from the tea he normally drinks, but we saw in "Bitter Work" that he thinks drinking tea is an excellent way to calm the mind in preparation for techniques such as creating lightning.

And on that subject; do you think that Bryke/the writers knew at this point that Iroh's abilty to redirect lightning would later become important to the story, or at the time did they simply have Iroh be able to do it because he was very powerful?

Well, I think it was a humorous gesture. It might have had something to do with a reference to bitter work.

You are all now...converts...to tea... muhahaha.

and apparently, I will no longer be posting the seal of disapproval for obvious reasons. but I can post a seal of approval.

Personally I think that the source of Iroh's tea mastery is fairly simple; he loves the taste of tea. It is that simple - because he loved tea for so long, he took the time to learn how to make it himself. When you are passionate about something, it becomes the source of all your wisdom. I am passionate about history and fantasy series, and hence they are the sources from which I draw my wisdom. Iroh's passion is tea, and so he draws his wisdom from tea.

    As I said, simple

Oooo. I like that. Of course, appa is a master as well.

Yes, being a master of tea probably came from the taste. It is his...motivation.

    Taste lulz

They also say that wisdome comes with age too.

    I'm drinking tea right now.

Which is why I'm bringing sexy back with this thread.

    Chinese symbol for tea.

    Remember the Herbalist photo? XD

On that subject, can somebody tell me Iroh's favorite tea? (if not, Axrendale, XD)

I believe it's Jin Sying (sorry, no idea of the spelling). It was the stuff that he was served by Zhao in "The Southern Air Temple"

yeah, you're going to have to learn the spellings for Trivia. XD I lost points to my own teammate because I misspelled somebody's name.
