I was thinking that Iroh kinda had it really bad. His son and his father were both murdered. He lost his battle at Ba Sing Se, and he lost his throne. I wonder what kind of impact did that have on him and what part did he play in Ozai becoming the Fire Lord?

Personally I think Iroh made peace with these events eventually. I think when we see him guide Aang through the BSS catacombs that Iroh kind of explains to Aang how 'power is overrated' and that his life took a different path and direction which he probably in many ways is much happier with in the end.

I wish to goodness we could see what happened to Uncle Iroh in the Spirit World but Mike and Bryan confirmed that won't be covered in any of the final episodes.

lol This is my quick theory:

After his son dies and his withdrawal from Ba Sing Se, Iroh returns to the Fire Nation to find his Brother sitting on the throne. I think Iroh figures out what happened, but does not challenge Ozai. Instead, he hangs around the Fire Nation as the 'old tea loving general' until Zuko is banished. besieged by memories of his own sun, Lu Ten, Iroh accompanies Zuko in hopes of teaching Zuko his history and his true destiny. Now, however, IROH IS OUT THERE, ARMED AND DANGEROUS!!! lol idk what he's up to now.

I'm hoping we see a flashback of him breaking out of prison. Though I think we're not going to.

I think it's better that we never find out most of Iroh's past. He's one of those characters that you simply love because of his dark and mysterious past.
