hello people, long time viewer of avatar, first time poster. Only reason i posted here is because the writer's themselves confirmed that mako already did the voice for the whole 2nd season. Same thing applies with most of the voice actors i believe.

So why was his voice different then?? i can safely assume that his sickness was catching up to him unfortunately...

hopefully this helps you people ^^

I'm required to say, "WELCOME! WE LOVE YOU!!!", there I got that over with. Read someone comments above, I think you might find it a better explanation for the brief voice change.

Thank you for the nice welcome...only reason im posting here is to tell everybody that he was already done voicing season 2

mako died of esophogeal cancer (sp??) so im pretty sure the voice problem was because he was really really sick. You'll notice that he had trouble actually talking.
could you give us actual proof of this information you're telling us? because if you don't have a reliable source, most people aren't going to believe you because of the voice change (like me)

well I guess it isn't on this thread, but someone else suggested that in normal post production editing they wanted to makes some changes but Mako went to that big highlander paradise in the sky, so they used the new guy, basically we will be hearing the new guy a little bit until season 2 is over. I really wish we could get his name, I seem to be the only one that like him. by the way I thank you for trying to use evidence, most of the people here just pull stuff out of their behinds, there *whisper*idiots*whisper* (and typing that as a whisper means no one but you or me can read it)

hmm evidence eh?? that's kinda hard to provide since i dont remember where i found them...

    rhetorical questions...

how long do they make an episode...9 months? a year each??
how do they do the voices anyways? do they have the voices ready and the cartoon is finished? or is it the other way around?

I have no idea to any answers to this questions...im merely asking what you guys think of it

they record the voices, make the animation, make any modifications or additions to the voices for new or modified parts not planed before recording the voices the first time, they wait to air it, they keep waiting, they wait and wait... they air it. That should basically be it.

I too noticed something a little off in that soccer scene, but didn't think anything of it because later sentences from Iroh sounded like Mako. After viewing this forum, I went back to listen more closely. The tail end of the sentence in question sounded like Mako, so i'm not really sure??what's going on. Is there any real proof of a different VA? rjx21's explanation makes sense to me.

I didn't notice the voice change, which is weird because I'm usually sensitive to those types of things. I think I may have been yelling at my sibling to shut up (Because AVATAR WAS ON ) during that scene though.

sorry i couldnt provide evidence about what i said earlier...im still trying to look for it although i did find this...

The hill on which Iroh makes a memorial to Lu Ten is similar to and represents the hill that Iroh and Lu Ten used to play on when younger and the same hill on which Lu Ten's grave resides. (found on wikipedia...)

its very interesting if it is true...
but i dont think it is lol

just wait people! il keep looking for evidence!

You know, it makes me wonder, since we were talking about Iroh and his son. I wonder what happened to Iroh's wife. The way he acts, it's not like she's waiting for him or anything. More like she's gone as well.??

I think??it was a good move getting a guy??that can imitate Mako's voice it's the best way. The accent of the new guy did fluctuatte a bit from some kind of russian to Mako's kind-of-japanese. We can only hope that he gets the hang of it with time.

    But i feel optimistic.

I don't know the name of the new guy yet, I'll have to look for it.

the Los Anglese Time Reported in july that Makoto Iwamatso (Aka Mako) died of Throut Cancer.?? which would explain the different sounding of Iroh's voice.?? The cancer spreads to your vocal cords midway through it development.?? It is my belive that no new VA is playing Iroh until season three.?? I will only except your logic of a new VA if you can prove that they had a differt person do Iroh in the last episode.

You got a good point here. But you can't rule out the possibility of a new one yet.

It's been said on here that Mako finished all of the dialouge for Season 2 before he died, but there might have been some that he couldn't do because of his cancer. So the idea of hearing a new VA might not be so startling. But with his change in voice because of it could be another possibility. But like you said, this is all merely speculation and ideas until some viable information is recieved.

crap il look like a dummy here but here it goes...

well i read a lot of threads proving that mako did finish season 2 but i still dont have credible evidence.

however, after watching the episode again, i realized that the soccer scene was a different voice actor. It could mean that he was too sick to do that part or they just added that part recently but mako already passed away to be asked to do another couple of sentences...

The only reason i realized that the part had a different voice actor was because i read forums about it. I would never have realized it if nobody told me about it. The person is doing a pretty good job trying to imitate the voice.

Well my thoughts about the change in voice is this: When Mako died they ofcourse searched for a new VA after finding one i think they took this "sad" episode to introduce them to the people who watch the avatar show just so us people can get used to hearing his voice, cuz if they just put in a new guy for season 3 it won't be the same and loads of people will hook off cuz they feel ripped... so they let this new guy re-do some of mako's scenes (every episode where iroh is in you'll probably hear the new voice (just a guess)) to get to know this voice and so we won't be to bugged when he in the end will be the VA for the Iroh character...

I think that's why there was another voice for an "unimportant" scene just so people won't be too "angry" or whatever they will be when hearing a new voice in an old character in a important scene.

It could have been worse: Iroh(mako): its for a special occasion...
Iroh(other): Yo DOG, this flower needs no sun, you dig?

I thought the new voice was pretty good. Don't know why they did not give him any voice credit.

    LMAO to the other Iroh.

I completely agree with you, everybody would know that they change VA if they introduced him in the new season...like i said on my previous post, i didnt notice the voice change until someone told me it sounded different.

I agree, the voice was noticably higher-pitched, but what the heck do you want them to do? They probably only have a few other lines left over that were recorded by Mako. I'm sure they'll use what they can, but when they run out, they'll have to use the new voice.

It must have been really noticable then, as even I noticed it, and usually I don't unless someone points it out to me. This new guy has probably just covered the edits for Iroh for season 2, and if the writers decide to continue the character of Iroh into season 3 (which I hope they do) they'll use this new guy, whose voice will probably get better into the season. It won't be the same as Mako's but most people will stop noticing if they even noticed in the first place.
