If you were listening closely during Iroh???s tale for this week???s episode you would have heard a new voice actor taking over for Iroh???s voice during the soccer scene, this makes it obvious that the creators aren???t??? going to kill off Iroh just because Mako died. They will do this for the rest of season 2 to slowly get us used to the new voice so it doesn???t just come out of no where and we feel hurt because it was changed.

??I for one liked the new voice how about the rest of you?

Wow, I never even noticed that! I think my friend was talking over the scene at that point. I'll make sure to pay closer attention when it comes on my Nick2 channel, then I'll give my opinion. Nice catch, by the way!

    OMG I NOTICED THAT TOO.

I thought it was okay, but I really liked Mako better. I'm so sad he died. And the tribute at the Luten mourning scene was so sad and thought provoking. It made me want to cry.

I thought the voice really captured Iroh's character well...The serious and wise character followed by the funny old man part of him.

I found it rather jarring, to tell you the truth...it was noticeably higher-pitched, and I felt it was a pretty poor imitation of the accent....to the point of caricature, even.

    It could have been worse:

Iroh(mako): its for a special occasion...

Iroh(other): Yo DOG, this flower needs no sun, you dig?

I thought the new voice was pretty good. Don't know why they did not give him any voice credit.

Wow I had no Idea Mako died until tuning in tonight.
He was one of the best VAs out there. The scene as a whole was oddly fitting though.

Was that line about the moonflower delivered by the alternate actor?

I'm thinking of the lines Iroh spoke to the young boys...the ones where a lot of people notice a difference in the voice.

I wasn't paying much attention, but Iroh's voice did seem softer somehow.

I watched it again, and the soccer scene is definately a different person, but after that it seems to go back to being Mako

I said as soon as Mako died that the old gruff sounding old guy voice isn't that hard to replace the new guy won't be able to do Iroh exactly as Mako did, but eventually we'll get used to it...but I won't remember Mako for Iroh...to me I'll always remember Mako for Aku on Samurai Jack...may his soul find eternal peace...

I was using that as a hypothetical example, if you want you can consider that is what it would be like if the creators brains was mush due to defective cloning and thus they hired a new york ganster/raper to voice iroh.

hello people, long time viewer of avatar, first time poster. Only reason i posted here is because the writer's themselves confirmed that mako already did the voice for the whole 2nd season. Same thing applies with most of the voice actors i believe.

So why was his voice different then?? i can safely assume that his sickness was catching up to him unfortunately...

hopefully this helps you people ^^

I wonder if that iroh singing and crying thing was the new guy: it seem to good for a mako tribute. It would make a good background song (if it was song by mako) for a mako tribute video on you tube.

Yeah, I noticed the voice difference and so did my 6-year-old.?? I didn't like the new voice tonight, but I'm trying to reserve judgement.?? We only heard a couple of phrases and I'm so used to hearing Mako that it wouldn't have sounded "right" to me no matter who else it was.??

I am wondering if perhaps this episode was actually the last one that they finished, production-wise??? Since the stories were written by so many people, and since it didn't directly advance the quickly-thickening plot, I would not be surprised if that were the case.?? Hey, I could be totally wrong.

I'm required to say, "WELCOME! WE LOVE YOU!!!", there I got that over with. Read someone comments above, I think you might find it a better explanation for the brief voice change.

Thank you for the nice welcome...only reason im posting here is to tell everybody that he was already done voicing season 2

mako died of esophogeal cancer (sp??) so im pretty sure the voice problem was because he was really really sick. You'll notice that he had trouble actually talking.
