Artificial drama like that is poison for any good story, doubly so when you do it at the end so you don't really have to deal with the emotional consequences. If Toph was to die, you have to think about what that'd really mean. What would the death mean in terms of her personal story, the character development and history she'd accumulated on her journey? What would it mean in terms of other characters' stories, particularly Sokka, who'd be the one who failed to save her? I'll admit it opens up a lot of opportunities, but there's no way they'd be able to explore them all to justice in the, what, 20 minutes the series had left? |
i disagree, i think adding drama is the best reason to have characters killed. i think toph should have died, she is of no further use. unlike zuko and aang. |
whoa.....no way.....toph is part of the Aang Gang (The GaAng).....if the creators were to split up the gaang, that would raise h3ll....people would freak out and be pissed off.....if someone were to die, it should've been suki (even though she's so sweet and kind), Mai, or one of the white lotus members....NOT IROH!!!!! |
because of all the fandom behind toph, most people will probably say the same thing. but really, she taught aang earthbending, and she destroyed the airships. there is no need for her to live any longer. sokka painted that picture in the end, to preserve the memories they spent together, so i don't think the gaang is going to be together any longer, besides aang and katara. yes sokka would be scarred because he failed to save her but he'd get over it. the death of one of the members of the gaang would be a much stronger representation of the horrors of the war.
