I think that the position probably would have changed him. I mean you saw how he was laughing in Zuko Alone, when he was talking about burning Ba Sing Se- Quote;''That is, if we dont burn Ba Sing Se to the ground. HAHHAHA.'' He probably wouldn't be as bad as Ozai though.

If Iroh would have became the Fire Lord, I think one of two things would have happened:

    1. The Fire Nation would be more peaceful.

    ???????????????????????????????????????????????? OR

    2. Ozai??would have found his own way to become the Fire Lord, most likely by eliminating the problem.

he would be the bad guy, but no as bad as ozai, and we all know he love zuko, so zuko would be like the beloved next to the throne, and azula not, and zhao would be the only one looking or aang-or not because he is dead-or azula but no because she was banished.and ozai would try to find a way to kill Iroh or something like thatm and maybe zuko's mother would be alive.

    That seems slightly logical.

If Iroh was the Firelord, I think he would act much like Ozai, but still much like himself. Think about it for a moment:
He was a general for the Fire Nation and would have had a good deal of experience in military combat. The siege at the Earth Kingdom capital would have been continuing if his son was in the Fire Nation and wouldn't have been killed in combat. But if he was, he might have called off the war and he would have been overthrown and possibly killed by Ozai. As far as the war would have gone and if certain events didn't occur, the Fire Nation would have won the war even before Sozen's Comet came. With that, they could stamp out any rebellion and crush all hope. There would be no peace.

I would like to think that Iroh would have recognized how the world is balanced and how every element and nation needs each other, just like he recongized in Seige of the North. That way,??the war would have either been stopped or slowed down.??But, I feel as if his philosophy is a result of him being banished and betrayed by his own family and people.

I still believe Iroh's heart was not all in the war...he did it out of loyalty for his people, but he saw that it was wrong. Either way, Ozai or Azula would have found a way to cause a mutiny or revolt in the army and people and took complete control.

I think the death of Iroh's son took away any war-mongering aspects to him -- it truly humbled him. If Iroh was firelord, and his son still had died, he would be the most just and noble leader of all time. If Iroh was firelord, and his son had survived, he would still be a noble and just ruler, but he would also follow through on winning the war.

Remember, when Iroh's son was alive (in his childhood years), Iroh was the loving, caring, tranquile individual he is now. I don't think he would be that evil. He is similar to Zuko. Zuko would have been a just ruler as well. Zuko would rule, but he wouldn't kill recklessly kill in order to succeed.

Ozai and Azura are different because they are somewhat one-sided -- they only care about winning. They don't care about winning with honor. They have no virtue.

Iroh and Zuko would be noble and just rulers because they value virtue.

But...they would still pursue the war. Besides the genocide of the Air Nomads(which was two generations ago), the Fire Nation hasn't really done anything particularly atrocious during the war(probably in part due to the inability of the writers to depict such things on a children???s show)???which is completely irrelevant. The war itself is the problem. If Iroh or Zuko were Firelord and pursued the war, they would still be committing the same crime of imperialistic aggression as Ozai is.
