It really doesn't matter. I doubt they had the heart to kill her so we can asume she is locked up somewhere tight.

She's in the loony bin...probably in a high-security cell somewhere where she won't anyone ever again. Maybe Aang even took her bending away...

Just because the story doesn't tell you exactly what happens, that doesn't mean you can't infer a little bit. All good stories leave something up to the reader/viewer...
