I am very confident Iroh is going to break out, find the gang and join them. Might take a few episodes, but it will happen. He is to smart for those guards.
There is no way, they are going to make it to the Fire Nation without him breaking out. When he was captured by Earth Benders in the first season, he was able to escape. And the Fire Nation guards are idiots, they always let the prisinor escape. Going all the way back to "Return Of The Avatar", they always let the prisinor escape.

I'll give you one better...the gaang will rescue him because aang and toph had a great connection with him, Iroh and Aang had a great chemistry among one another and iroh was proud of aang for choosing the right decision of helping his friend instead of gaining great power.

Iroh is also upset of what Zuko did (if they planned this to happen in the beginining then good job which is unlikely) so he will gladly help out the avatar how to bend fire, this is a great reason for the writers to come up with on why he'll teach the avatar

What would be funny, is when Iroh escapes, Zuko is "sleeping" in his room, and comes out and says "What happened? What did I miss?", like Iroh has done many times in season 1.
