| Don't think there is a thread for this so i decided to make one. A couple of my friends were wondering how Zuko survived the lightning bolt shot at him from Azula during the season finale. Because in the CRoD Aang was out cold for quite some time, yet Zuko is still moving around a bit. So i wanted to clear up any confusion anybody might have had by explaining this. While he was jumping in front of the lightning you see his hands come together at the last second to absorb the lightning (it happens pretty quick that's probably why people were wondering how he survived). Then the screen zooms out to show lightning shooting up into the air to show that he redirected it. The one thing that bothered me is if he had been able to redirect it, why have that (awesome shaped) scar on his chest? Hope i helped. |

Actually, they have a couple of Mods for each forum to supervise and protect it. This includes Travia, Quotes, etc etc
This means that they DO know what they are talking about. At least, mine kind off was. Except for the fact that he's wrong and I am right, lol! So, if you're reading this my dear Mod friend (and I'm sure you are since it is kind off your job to do so), IN YOUR FACE!

That's because he couldn't redirect ALL the lightning. A part of the lightning shot at him was stuck in his ''sea of chi'' like Iroh called it, lol. That caused the scar Ow, and I gave the EXACT same explination to the mod's, but they wouldn't delete the trivia which pointed this out as a mistake from the creators. Guess what? The same mod denied it TWICE! Anyways, I admire your effort, just like I admire my own, haha! |
Zuko wasn't as vulnerable as Aang was. In technicality, Aang's situation was much, much worse. His back was exposed, he didn't know firebending, and he was almost in the Avatar State, and that eventually caused him to die. (That was confimred.) Also, Katara wasn't able to heal him until a while after.
In Zuko's situation, he was at least preparing to defend himself. He redirected most of the lightning, but wasn't able to get all of it. But all in all, he knew what he was doing. Also, when he said to Katara, "That way no one else gets hurt," he was refering to Aang I think. Lastly, Katara was able to heal Zuko much sooner than Aang.

i heard that sozin's comet makes the firebender's bending STRONGER but not making them endure attacks.
but still azula's bending was still strong during the comet.

It basically multiplies the the power a firebender can call upon exponentially. A firebending skill that we have seen repeatedly is the ability to get hit by a firebending attack and not be seriously injured (or even burned at all). If ever there was a time when a firebender might stand a chance of blocking some of the energy of a lightning bolt, or at least shrugging off its effects, it would be during the comet's passover.

But Azula's power and so the power of the lightning would have been enhanced as well so effectively cancelling out the potential increased defense that zuko might have inherited due to the comet.

Yes, that's what I thought too. Remember what Iroh said when he first taught Zuko re-directing.
"The stomach detour is critical. You must not let the lightning pass through your heart or the damage could be deadly."
Note, he didn't say that redirection was impossible without the stomach detour, merely that it was critical to render the process safe. I think that Zuko probably redirected the lightning, but as it wasn't nullified it did major damage to his body as it passed through.

Perhaps, but I'm just saying, during Sozin's Comet Zuko probably would have had a better chance than he would have otherwise.
