well ignoring the fact that Azula is now in control of Ba Sing Se and knows about the solar eclipse, and assuming they had a large enough force to invade in the first place.

they would have to launch the invasion the a few days before the actual eclipse so they could cross the ocean to reach the fire nation, on the sea there wouldn't be any need to wait for their bending to be canceled out since it will all be ship to ship combat.

the problem here is that the Fire Nation has the most advanced and powerful Navy in the world, and we have no idea what shape the Earth Kingdoms Navy is in, but I doubt it would be that effective considering that on the sea there is nothing to bend.

assuming they can take the Fire Nation Navy, they are now in a race against time to reach the shores by the eclipse, if they get delayed by even a few hours it reduces the amount of time they have to take advantage of it, they might even miss it completly.
Once they land and the eclipse occurs they will have 1 free day, durring this they would have to not only begin advancing into the nation to cripple what they can, but they also have to establish a base of operation and begin landing reinforcements.

all in all, an actual invasion of the FN would be very difficult to pull off, especially considering the FN has other weapons besides their bending. Realistically the EK couldn't really do enough damage in the one day to gain an advantage.
The most I can see them doing is trying to retake the land that the FN took from the EK with the eclipse

I think the Earth Kingdom Navy brings rocks and boulders to their ships to fight, but they can't damage the Fire Nation navy's ships because there made of metal.

Talking to your self is never a good idea.

I would assume all the ships from the Water Tribes would gather and attack though a Fire Nation blockade and dump tons of Earth Bending troops off in the Fire Nation.

The gaang needs to sneak into the firenation and get close enough to the firelord and have Aang fight Ozai one on one.?? This would be difficult since Aang is a criminal and he doesn't know firebending yet.

It seems as in 'The Avatar State' episode that the aspirations or??wishes of the generals of the??Earth Kingdom for the avatar or??launching an invasion??of the Fire Nation, may or??may??not be??the actual way this war is won. Remember that Aang has the distinguished honor of saving the world, not the Earth Kingdom military force. I think that the solar eclipse may be the opportunity for 'Aang' to defeat the Fire Lord and maybe not necessarily the day the rest of the Avatar world inhabitants lay waste to the Fire Nation instead. Just a thought.

Well, in my FanFic, "The Outcast", the armies of Omashu and Ba Sing Se secretly meet at General Fong's base along with the GAang. They then set sail for the bottom of the Fire Nation where it isn't as mountainous and covered in volcanoes.

It then becomes exactly like "Saving Private Ryan" where each member of the GAang get into little captured FN boats that are cramped up to 20 soldiers. And when the doors of the boat open; instead of machine gun fire and artillery, they get hailed by arrows and catapults.

I can say more, but I don't feel like it, mwahahaha!

The Gaang won't worry about the outside fighting they will head straite to the center of the fire nation. But the will not just charge into the war room i think they will try to draw the fire lord outside

Why use SPR when you could use the boat/landing at Stalingrad idea from the movie Enemy At The Gates?

    Never saw that movie.

And that D-Day was the biggest battle fought in WWII and probably of all time. It was obviously the biggest amphibious assault. And no, I'm not saying this because I'm American (plz don't start some senseless racial fights like on Youtube; also that the British, Canadians, and Free French helped a lot too), because it just reminded me what war is about.

Also, isn't Stalingrad that city in the MAINLAND of Russia? I remember a big WWII battle fought there and I don't remember anything about boats or water.

Oh, and that I love learning about the war parts of history (is it possible that I'm a Firebender?!), so I know a lot of the wars the the USA fought in; and a few foreign wars.

The Volga River runs though Stalingrad. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stalingrad
    Some good info on Stalingrad.
The Battle of Kursk is the largest armored engagement of all time. Battle of Normandy is still the largest seaborne invasion in history. Operation Market Garden was the largest airborne operation in history.

If you want to take old text for what its worth the Battle of Kurukshetra was the largest battle ever.
