it's really hard to not like avatar the way it is now, but if avatar were on HBO things would be like: - mai would actually shoot ppl in the face w/ those darts - people would get burned and bloodied a whole lot often - it would be a much darker show - azula woulda killed a whole lotta ppl by now - they woulduve shown zuko getting punched in the face w/ a flaming fist (that's the way i see it, he prolly got hit in the face w/ a fireball tho) - there'd be a lot more romance - more deadly bending - less humor - lots of profanity, not by aang, but by everyone else the grass is always greener, and the only real thing wrong is that mai's character really is useless since its a kid show, but i really like avatar the way it is alredy. |
but I think the more important question would be:
HOW WOULD NICK BE IF NOT FOR AVATAR?

I guess this has been brought up before, but since I can??t either remember it or find it, i??m posting it. What do you think would change in avatar if it wasn??t a nicktoon? You know, imagine an anime with the same story, characters, and all, just without nick "kiddie" style and restraint. Here go some of my ideas:
Feel free to discuss them and add more of the type. |
Hmmm...well it would be pretty non-existent for one. I'd hate to think of Avatar as a violent show on any other network mainly because, they probably would've dragged out Avatar for way-way longer than neccessary, they would be too forward with adult humor (it's all about subltly people!) and it would be overly bloody. Not to mention the budget would be way lower (last I heard it's a little under one million per episode, Nick's got bank people!). Not to say there would only be negatives, I agree on the whole Mai thing, she is an awesome warrior but they can't exactly show all she can do...the worst she's done is pin people to a tree. And every once in a while I do wish Avatar would have a few more fillers (not in place of the plot episodes but in addition to them).

Avatar probably wouldn't change because the creators came up with the concept and the direction.?? Most networks don't put a lot of input into the shows beyond ensuring that the show meets with their standards of entertainment.?? Nick is about wholesome children's entertainment; Spike targets adult males; Oxygen targets adult females.?? There's a channel that focuses on Christian values; I wouldn't expect them to show a KISS or GWAR concert.?? The creators probably shopped around to all the kids networks because that's what they were going for.?? A lot of the issues of blood and violence are more about the broadcasting standards and policies.?? You'll notice that a lot of the animations that have a lot of violence, blood, or profanity are shown in the evening because that is a broadcast regulation.?? Just like during the 80s, it was a requirement that anything shown for kids had to have an educational message.?? A lot of shows fulfilled that requirement by having a moral segment at the end. |
I doubt the creators would have Aang or Katara doing things like ripping the oxygen outta your lungs or going Scar(FullMetal Alchemist) on ppls hearts...those are bad guy tactics...but when Aang goes Avatar state ppl would actually die instead of "vanishing without a trace" like the ppl he wiped out with water in "Seige of the North" or "Avatar State" and Azula would have killed the stupid general who ousted her plan to capture Zuko in "Avatar State" instead of Zuko just tossing him overboard

How could Av be a rip off of DBZ? DBZ was great but come on, it took like a month or more in episodes on TV just to get through ONE battle. That was so annoying. ::dodges bricks:: Its true! |

Dbz dude 2 : Only kidding??? and you thought I brought it all to the table in this life or death fight? no I am at my weakest pwr level. Dbz dude 2: oh? :: dbz dude 2 begins to yell while bleaching his hair and taking steroids:: Dbz dude 2: Oh my????! :bz dude 2 continues to yell, Dbz dude 1 is supposedly tooo shocked to do anything while his enemy is getting stronger... you know, like kill him:: Dbz dude 1: AHHHHHH! :: about 5 more minutes of Dbz dude 1 yelling, then Dbz dude 2 finally figures out something...:: Dbz dude 2: I will show you my true strength too! :: Dbz dude 2 begins yelling:: Dbz dude 1 turns shiney like a brand new gold coin, and now watches Dbz dude 2, apparently frozen in shock, or gloatting? or pride, Idk, I'd just kill the dude before he can "reach his full level/go horse by screaming and growing his hair. :: narrorator comes on::: what will happen now in this grand fight? tune in next time to see Dbz dude 1 and 2 fight at their supposed full level... well mostly chat at each other about their life story, yell, and glow, on another action packed drama of DBZ! |

Cartoon Network (aka: Craptoon Network - what I call it)/Kids WB (The CW) would more likely make this more suspensful and a little more violence into this show. Jetix/Toon Disney would make it a little more cheesy. Same with 4KidsTV/Fox. Disney Channel? Think of a strange version of American Dragon: Jake Long. |
