Ok let's say the relationship between Aang and Katara blossoms. After the war they get married and have a kid. Now heres the question will the kid be able to Air and Water bend?

This should either go in the Spoilers and Speculations Thread or the??Ask a Question, Get an Answer Thread (though I suppose this could be a long discussion). But, to answer your question, my theory is that if, say, a person from the EK (bender or non-bender) and a person from the FN (bender or non-bender) have kids, it will either be a Firebender, an Earthbender, or neither. I doubt they will be able to do both at one time, considering the elemental spirit has to be born into the child. Two non-benders could have a bender for a kid.

Now, since you're talking about the Avatar, he can bend all of the elements, so I would say the kid would be either an Earthbender, an Airbender, a Waterbender, a Firebender, or a non-bender. I would seriously doubt that the kid would be able to multiple-bend, because that would mess up the whole Avatar cycle. If that happened, then if a hybrid Earth/Fire-bender and a hybrid Water/Air-bender reproduced, there would be a whole other Avatar. But, that's just my theory....

I think that the only way it would work is that, when two people get married and they are from different nations the kid has to be a non-bender. And if an Avatar gets married (or fornicates, lol) with a girl from his same nation it would be a bender from that nation, but if she is from a different nation (like Katara) the kid would be a non-bender.

There is no way that a person could have multiple bending powers without being the avatar, that would roun the whole idea of the show.

The kid could just have a chance of being a water or air bender but well it would have to be a water bender.

The next Avatar will be born into the Water Tribe..once Aang dies...but we could actually see it happen where an Avatar is actually related to a past Avatar...if the show goes that far (which it probably won't, but could) we could see this kinda "Grandpa Aang" spritual guide type thing going on ya feel me?

But here's what I have learned. The Earthbenders learned how to earthbend by watching the Badgermole. The Airbenders learned how to airbend??by watching the Sky Bison. The Waterbenders learned how to waterbend by watching how the moon and the ocean interact with each other. So why can't someone from a different nation just do what the people from the nation they are trying to learn how to bend just do what the nation did in the first place?

or would it help the show because more people would watch it because they were trying to figure out what the writters were thinking?

the bending has become hereditary, but it also depends whether or not the elemental spirit is born into them. if someone could just watch something and learn how to do it, now, i'm pretty sure they'd do it. also, the bending arts were learned centuries and centuries ago, probably thousands of years ago considering how many past Avatars there were.
