by now, everyone has to have noticed that there are many deadly weapons used in avatar, but they are all used in a NON-VIOLENT manner, meaning the creators always find a way to use the weapons so they dont actually injure someone to the point of bloodshed. I've always been the biggest fan of avatar since the beginning, but sometimes I just become irratated at this aspect of the show to the point where sometimes i wish the show was on a less kiddy network. but it's really hard not to like avatar the way it is already, since the show does so many things right.

discuss anything that relates to this topic, vent or complain, anything. i'm just gonna start out by listing some dilemmas this topic presents:

1- the uselessness of Mai's character: we're never gonna see her hit anyone w/ those arrows/kunai

and some obvious attempts to 'go around' injuring w/ deadly weapons:

1 - Jet hooking the dai li's robes and flipping him over
2 - all Longshot ever got to shoot was some stupid rock shoe thingie
3 - swords will never meet flesh; might as well have them fight with wooden swords

if a topic like this has been made already, i'm sorry i didnt notice and you can close this one

It would be nice to see some blood if anything to give it a more real flare.

I was thinking about that too, and it's because Cartoon Network is chill about stuff most of the time. I mean they started airing DBZ uncut and they barely sensor (if any) Naruto. CN would have allowed blood in Avatar no sweat.

Also in Lake Laogai, notice how Jet was not bleeding after taking a jagged rock to the chest.

If you look at how the rock was formed, it was not in a position to make external blood, but to cause internal bleeding. It's kind of blunt. But I do agree, just a little more violent, but not too much, but of course, that's never going to happen because it's on Nick.

Nick wants this generation of kids to grow up being naive, innocent twerps with no concept of death or blood. Maybe it would be good to at least show a little of that stuff.

This sucks. Nick brought Avatar to life and wanted the show and without it we may not have Avatar. BUT they still do kinda baby the show. Even a little blood once in a while would be nice.

I disagree. Isn't this a Y-7 show? Perhaps rather than forcing parents to choose a program with "the right amount" of blood/violence to suit those watching those shows catering to the older set, older viewers??should just get over it and be happy with a well told story that can be seen by a larger range of viewers. If??someone needs "more"??blood/violence so bad, why not just watch something else?

ya know the strange thing is... and I'm sure there is a difference between tvy7 and rated G for a movie BUT.... I was sitting down with the kids (5 & 7) last night watching an old DVD, The Secret of Nimh, rated G. There was blood more than 5 times in this video AND there were 3 gruesome deaths; one was smashed under a brick, another was sliced across the chest spurting blood out, and the third was had a throwing knife thrown at him burying deep in the middle of his back...??

hehe, sounds like a good G movie. however, how did the kids react? were they oblivious to it or did they have a visceral reaction?

I just don't see why thi subject is brought up again. The writers/producers are making a show telling an interesting story. Catering to the fans desires, in my mind, would hinder the show. I just don't see how it would make the show any better. Without actually seeing Zuko's injury when he was faced against his father, I was able to get a very good sense of what happened. The same with Azula's attack on Iroh. even without blood that scene was intense. Would seeing Lu Ten's body have made the intenseness of the scene with Iroh singing in Tales of BSS higher? I don't think so.

Actual they were pretty oblivious to it... one of the shots of blood was totally natural, the main mouse cut herself while trying to untwine a piece of metal.?? As for the fighting and blood associated with that, it really was no different than a Disney movie; i.e. Beauty and the Beast -??final fighting scene on balcony, The Little Mermaid - Ursale being stabbed dead, The Sleeping Beauty - Prince Eric getting torn up by the vines then having to stab dead the Witch in dragon form.... get the picture (yikes! they are all rated "G")

I was actually fine with them not showing when Zuko got his scar, and when Iroh took a blast of fire to the chest, that didn't necessarily warrant blood. I was mainly talking about the use of deadly weapons in a non-violent manner. Did anything in your post involve deadly weapons? NO

yeah, Avatar has the equivalent G rating on tv (Y7 is it?) and yet there's none of that. Oh well
