You know, there's only one thing in between that . . . and it's usually seen in zombie movies (Unless you want to turn Ozai and Azula into vampires, and boy, what a disaster that would be)

Unless you're referring to fighting him until he ends up killing himself (accidentally or intentionally), or fighting him for years until he dies of natural cause; maybe a disease or volcanic eruption will handle him mid-battle.

Or simply imprisoning them. But oh wait that's to simple to work.
If you haven't noticed, because it involves Ozai still living it falls under "keeping him alive" which acr64 said wasn't the answer, (but nor was killing him)
I am not acro64, therefore I have a different opinion of what Aang should do.

The thing with the populance is a bad idea considering that even criminals are loyal to their country (Boiling Rock refrence). I'm telling you, Umpa Lumpas are the way to go.

Jk, but I think they shouldn't take the chance of him coming back to try and take the throne again.

Yeah, 'cause assuming Aang doesn't kill him and he is instead put in jail, there will always be people trying to bust him out. The people were indoctrinated to be absolutely loyal to the Firelord.
Not to mention he may very well bust out on his own, considering how bad@$$ he is.

i agree. There are probably a lot of people who would still be loyal to him, and after the war is over would try to break him out or continue his work. but killing him would send the fire nation a much stronger message.

I took your suggestion as a third option in acro64's dilemma so that's why I was only saying that imprisonment was not an option in the confines of acro64's "can't live/can't be killed" dilemma
