I found at the end of the series that I was saddened they did not explore more of the Air Nomads, and how they were wiped out. I know, I know that the Fire Nation killed them. But how? They were hidden and almost impossible to find except by flight.

The other thing was annoyed they did not explore was how benders were made.

    But oh well.

Some mysteries need to survive to keep the theorists happy. Was there an Air Nomad traitor who knew how to find the other Air Nomads? Is bending strictly genetic or spiritual or some combination of the two? Uh-- what else?

Well, Sozin used the power of the Comet to help kill the Air Nomads. Also, they're weak in the fact that they won't fight back. However, I don't know how Sozin got there...

What I don't get is the whole "Air Temples can only be reached by flight" thing. They are on mountains, they can be reached.

Well, dragons can fly, can't they? so Sozin probably started the dragon-death campaign after they went all flamey on the trmples.

Also, any firebenders that can shoot fire from their feet (i.e. all firebenders) would be able to fly during the comet, though they would have some problem with steering.

No, that's not true. First off, not all firebenders can do that, only powerful ones. I will allow, however, that Sozin's Comet will give the majority of firebenders that power. HOWEVER, the temples are too far off the ground to be reached with that method, I believe.

Also kind of wonder how the people in the Northern air temple got their if flight was the only way to get to the temples. They only invented the glider machines after getting to the temple so there must have been some other way. I don't think they mentioned anything about how they got there in that episode did they?

Judging from the Lionturtle's words, the Avatar was either
A-Made at the same time element bending was discovered to keep peace between the different benders
B-Was the first bender, and taught the rest of the tribes how to bend elements, but each could only bend a specific element.

How about not exploring where Zuko's mother is with that question near the near towards former Fireloard in prison? That leaves fans wanting that question answered.

True. actually one thing that i realized that some people may have overlooked is that during the episode the "Northern Air Temple" the FN was able to get up the mountain by using their tanks' grappling hooks. The FN could have used these tanks if they had them back in Sozin's time. Antother possibility is that they tricked the Air Nomads into taking a group of soldiers up there. Considering it was common knowledge that the AN did not believe in violence it would not have been extremely hard to defeat the AN. Otherwise the FN could have gotten help from someone inside the AN. Also the FN could have used dragons. I dont think they were hunted till ozai's reign
