I'm trying to get my friend to watch the avatar finale with me (even though he never saw avatar) . After finally saying that he would, he wanted to know what he would need to know to understand the finale.

    Any help in explaining?

Maybe you should just get him to watch EIP. That's kind of a recap. lol. You could explain how everything really went though.

Yeah, EIP, but then you still have to explain Zuko and Aang's past a little bit, because it doesn't really clarify that in the play. Something tells me he'll need to know that to fully understand the finale.

Make him watch EIP but every now and then stop and explain in more detail.

One problem is that EIP has somewhat false records of the Gaang's adventures and it may not be a good first episode because it explains the characters wrong...
What I suggest is that you show your friend a few of the key episodes and explain the rest...

See, that's why they have to explain DURING EIP. It's a nice, quick over cap of what has happened. If they pause the show sometimes to help explain the details, everything should work out well.
