    I wholeheartedly agree, there shouldn't be a 4th season of Avatar. There should be a 1st season of a whole new Avatar. Time for the torch to get passed and carried on by a new generation of characters. Start fresh and tell a whole new story within the same universe. What's the point of having a deep universe with all kinds of potential stories to be told, and get stuck on the first like nothing else can be as good?

    Quoted for truth. It basically means you completely agree with what the person you're quoting just said.

    There should be a website with all these acronyms...

    Well the first post in the question and answers thread explains quite a few of the common acronyms used here, however if all internet speak acronyms are explained then that would take up quite a few pages..

    First off, you're nuts for comparing ALTA to Harry Potter. It took HP seven books to finish that story, and there were really no loose ends (at least, not ones that drive you crazy) left at the finale. So, to counter your argument, I must draw upon another (albeit, older) successful franchise.

    Babylon 5 was the brainchild of Michael Straczynski and he planned it from the beginning to have 5 seasons. He had the story mapped out and everything. When the network that carried it threatened to cancel the show, he had to hurry and rewrite the end of the story so that it would end in 4 seasons instead, thereby leaving many holes and loose ends after the fourth season. Lucky for him, the network decided to give him his fifth season, in which he was able to answer all of the unanswered questions left at the end of the show.

    Now, I know Bryke probably won't admit this in public, but I bet if you were to get them alone and off the record, they would tell you that yes, ALTA was originally meant to have four seasons, but was cut short by the Nick execs who didn't think the ratings were high enough. So, of course, like Mr. Straczynski, they rushed to finish the story, leaving holes big enough to drive a freight train through. For instance, what happened to Ursa and did she really kill Azulon? Does Aang ever see Koh again? What was the deal with Iroh's trip to the Spirit World (we could actually do a whole season on Iroh's spiritual journey)? In an interview in the comic before s3 started, they pretty much said that Aang was not really the last airbender. What has become of that knowledge? What happened to Toph's parents, the people of the South Pole, the Earth King, etc.? In earlier eps, they were really good about re-visiting old characters and giving us updates, but s3 was done in such a terrible rush and it's obvious to me, just like it should be obvious to you.

    Unfortunately for Bryke, I don't think they will get to answer those questions the way they wanted to. I signed the petition b/c I have some faint hope that Nick will show mercy on us and the Creators and give them the chance they deserve to fill in the holes and end the series properly.

    In short, I'm almost certain that this was mapped out in four seasons to begin with and they were forced to end it in three. It's just too bad that they can't at least have the chance to admit it and apologize (not for themselves, of course, but apologize for Nick's bad decisions with the show).

    i agree. they should have a fourth season to at least tie up the loose ends. but if they don't... i think it would be interesting if the new characters in a new season of Avatar run into old characters (such as Ursa) and have the loose ends of the old gaang be tied up that way. for example, the new characters live in the Earth Kingdom where Ursa has been hiding and they begin to talk to each other and Ursa reveals parts of her secret... stuff like that.

    There is not going to be a Book Four...get over it. Some of the posts in this thread explain the ways that Avatar will likely continue. The likelihood is that Avatar will continue in either mini-episodes or hour-long movies.

    I'm sure Nick was dying to get Bryke to make a fourth season. But Bryke has said over and over again that this whole entire series was mapped out from the beginning. There was never a plan for the fourth book EVER. Each book revolved around Aang learning one of the elements. That's why there were three and not four because Aang already knew air bending. A fourth book was never even in the question.

    Your first point (Avatar being cut short): It seems your trying to convince us that avatar was finished too quickly, when in reality we've known since the beginning of book 3 that it was going to be the last one.

    Actually we've received hints of it being the last one since book 2, so i don't know why you haven't figured out by now that Avatar was not cut short.

    Your second point (Avatar ratings being the reason for it being cut short):

    As for the ratings of avatar, it's Nickalodeans most successful show to date, so you can't say:

    "ALTA was originally meant to have four seasons, but was cut short by the Nick execs who didn't think the ratings were high enough."

    People have said for a long time, it's Nick's greatest show ever, or definitely in the top 3.

    So the cut short for ratings premise you have... doesn't hold up.

    Go look at the ratings section on wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Your third point (Filling gaps in story) : I've read a lot of stories and been through countless adventures. My favorite types of stories to read are series because i get to enjoy the world longer.
    If you've read a lot of good series that ended, you'd know, in every single one, there were loose ends. It's nearly impossible to finish off a series by tying up EVERY loose end and continuing the plot the way you want to. This is usually the case because authors don't have supernatural memory powers and it's hard for them to remember every loose end.
    That's why Jk Rowling is answering loose ends, instead of writing more books, so she goes around listening for questions and then she answers them and we all get to tie up loose ends. Sometimes new things, that no one could think of, that only the author knew, come up after the series, like about Dumbledore and the wizard he grew up with and their relationship.The answer to that question came AFTER the series ended.
    With avatar, even if we were given a new series, we'd have to be given a NEW plot, and with each new plot, comes NEW loose ends, so we'd need atleast 2 or 3 new series just to tie everything up and all that with a NEW plot.... that's very unreasonable.
    If you want the loose ends tied up, i'd just ask the creators for the answers, or we might see the answers in the new movie.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Sum it all up:

    Avatar was not cut short, it did not lack in ratings, and the loose ends can't be tied up with a new season.

    Also a new season, if done improperly, and at this stage of the show, might destroy the credibility and amazement of the first 3 seasons of Avatar.

    I'm not ready to risk that, and for a show you love, you shouldn't be ready to risk that either.

    Lets not be greedy, if you want solace or comfort, your only option (as an adventure seeker) is to just go looking for a new adventure.(A new book or tv series)

    That is the cure to the end of avatar, not destroying the series with a horrible 4th season made on the fly.

    I agree with DaTruth. Another season for this plot line would be completely pointless. What would be the point? There would be no goal, no antagonist, no NOTHING. So, I think a brand new series is definitely the way to go.
