Did Ty Lee make a deliberate choice?

    Another question is, why didnt they beat the crap out of those guards? Mai showed she already could, and Ty Lee pwned the "Terra Team"i believe in "The Drill". They definitely coulda taken them, especially with 'Zula down.

    Actually, I don't think Mai was deliberately acting against Azula either. As she says during TBR, "I love your brother more than I fear you."

    She did it out of love for Zuko, not out of hate for Azula.

    Actually, it was like 25.

    And from what we know about how the war's going, it's probably safe to assume that Fire Nation soldiers are better equipped and stronger than Earth Kingdom soldiers.

    Okay, then what? After she's pwned the guards, does she take the gondolas? Not going to happen, they'd just cut the ropes. Was she going to swim? By bye Ty Lee. There was nothing she could do, no way out. Better to not get herself in any more trouble than she was already in.

    Mai was to surprised by Ty Lee's attack on Azula that she could not even move. As for Ty Lee I am sure she did not want to fight the FN guards so she accepted them taking her as a prisoner. Will she stay a prisoner i doubt it but that is only my opinion and that does not hold a lot of weight.

    I think it would have been better if Dai Li agents shot them down, it would make more sense too.

    Mai would have had a harder time trying to get to the other side, Ty Lee could have easily done it(same way she reached the gondola with Zuko, sokka, suki, the jail guy and warden and Hakoda)and probably reach Zuko before he took the airship but she chose to stay with Mai

    Ty Lee definitely just didn't want to see Mai hurt, but keep in mind that Azula's been bullying Ty Lee since childhood, just because she couldn't cartwheel like Ty Lee can.

    Exactly. Ty Lee has always been closer to Mai, because she is afraid of Azula, and because Azula is mean to her. Being forced to choose between them - of course she'd pick Mai. Mai doesn't bully her. Mai even stands up for her (against Zuko, who she loves). Azula couldn't really care less about Ty Lee. However, I think Ty Lee, while acting on instinct, was also acting because she didn't want Azula to kill her friend. Like, she was just stopping Azula doing something horrible, like killing one of her only friends. She was kinda saving Azula too (though technically, that choice helps Azula go insane ).

    I do think it was more saving Mai, but saving Azula is another point to dwell on. Anyways, when choosing between Azula and Mai, she'd pick Mai. Especially when Mai has shown she has the courage to stand up to Azula - that gave Ty Lee the courage to do it as well.

    yeh i always felt that ty lee joined azula reluctantly, probably out of fear. but i hope mai and ty lee join the gaang, it would be great to see in the finale all of them gaanging up on azula (haha get it?)

    They were setting Azula up for this since they introduced Mai and Ty Lee. Mai has never really shown fear of Azula. "she can shoot all the lightning she wants"

    Ty Lee definitely seemed to come out of fear or a desire to protect the others at the circus. They just needed a situation where follwing her would be worse than crossing her. For Mai it was Azula killing Zuko, and for Ty Lee it was Azula killing Mai.
