I'd really hate it if Sokka died. Next to Aang, he's my favorite character.

I was wondering why the first part of the thread wasn't full of fail. Then I looked at the date. Ha.

Well at least then we won't have to worry about a sequel.

Well, everyone except Aang. He doesn't die, but is so traumatized by the final battle that he goes insane. Thus, in the sequel, the hero of that series can meet a much older Aang in a scene kind of like this:

The most heartbreaking heroic but tragic death would be Appa or Momo.

Of course, Avatar won a Genesis award for its ethical treatment of animals and the series creators cringed when they used the term Animal Cruelty in The Western Air Temple so I think those two are safe.

Yeah, I can see it now: Momo getting fried like Hedwig did in the last Harry Potter book.

Yeah, I can see it now: Momo getting fried like Hedwig did in the last Harry Potter book.

And then his remains land all over the gaang in a bloody, horrible fashion that permanently scars them for life.

Then they share their pain with each other by making crazy love all at the same time on Appa, who finally found another flying bison, and gets freaky with a bunch of horny teenagers on his back.

Man, I can see it now.

Somewhere someone who's read Sozin's Comet is snickering to themselves 'I know something you don't know.'

Something tells me she would save her final words for Sokka.

    Aang.
But he isn't up here...so i'll go with Toph.
The greatest earthbender on earth, dying for her friends (family). How heartbreakingly beautiful would that be?
