    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/health/bal-te.cloak20oct20,0,5280839.story?track=rss

There have been recent news articles of the first steps in cloaking where heat and radiation causes light to bend around objects and render them completely invisible from all fields of vision. I imgaine a brilliant firebender or a well versed Master would be capable of such a thing; or maybe the Firebending Master Avatar. While I don't expect it to be a part of the series as explaining such a thing during the show or while it was happening would be awfully long winded and break the pacing, I do think it's a neat thought.

I guess you can discuss this or tell me other interesting ways to use each bending art (aside from plant bending and the ones already stated as possible through the series).

Soundbending...Aang has already done it too when he used Appa's whistle to send a sound wave all throughout Ba Sing Se? now imagine it's the dark and Azula is after Aang but they're in the middle of the woods...Aang could Airbend vaccum bubbles in the air around Azula so that sound doesn't travel the straight line path to her ears...which would distort where the sound is coming from...or even unleashing a devastating Dosu(alla Naruto) attack and paralyze her with a high frequency low amplitude sound wave...

    OOOOO I got one !

Create vacums ove a firbender's hands and feet and they cannot create fire, at least from there hands or feet.

By that logic, if Aang could actually cause the sound waves to gather by bouncing them back in on each other through earthbending them back and continue to stack them on each other, he could eventually create a deafening sonic boom. While not practical, it would be a scary thought. Imagine that whistle done 50 times over!

    MIRROR-POWER AND ILLUSIONS!!!

Not literally, of course, but Waterbenders have healing, Earthbenders have Second Sight, Firebenders have lightning, and Airbenders need something.

Well, since they're all about evading and agility, maybe they can use some sort of bizarre mirror power that flips them to a location, or perhaps they can create the illusion that there is more than one of them by running extremely fast.

That reminds me of the Pride fight from Fullmetal Alchemist when he disabled the Flame Alchemist from creating explosions by cutting the air he used to make a reaction to spark a fire. It's a brilliant application and would ruin anyone who solely depended on thier bending arts.

I don't think that makes sense through strictly airbending. But it's obvious that in the Avatar universe there are plenty of Zen masters who understand a great deal about thier chi. I think Astral Projection would be closer to what you're thinking of. Though I don't think Aang has the time to learn more than the elements right now. If anyone already knows how to do something similar to that, it's Iroh.

Only if Jet can do some Solid Snake action.

Jet: (In a carboard box) I'm invisible!
Zuko: (perfectly stealthed) No, you're really not.

lol I would love to see my two favorite characters ripoff two of my favorite games.

JetIn Snake's voice) Otacon, do you think having a cigarette in my mouth instead of straw will make me less invisible in this box.

Zuko: *goes over to Jet's smoking box and lifts it up* Yeah, it does. *Zuko makes Jet's cigarette explode*

I would be laughing for hours if that happened!

Aang's sending the buffalo whistle throughout Ba Sing Se was probably an airbending technique. He would have had the wind moving with the sound to spread it farther. I believe I've heard that sounds carry farthest downwind.

And he should be able to create a sonic boom by forcing all of the air out of an area and then letting the vaccuum created suck the air back.?? That's what thunder is.

Jet: Hey, Pliskin. Can you read me? I still don't understand the ending of MGS:2.
Pliskin: STOP RADIOING ME, YOU NOOB! You're supposed to be stealthed!
Jet: *smells the air* I think my box is on fire.
    Pliskin: Rub dynamite on it.

And that's what Soundbending would be too...it's the Airbending equivolent to lightning...

How about a more, how you say, "subtle" sort of earthbending? Sort of like sniping, maybe? Like lightning, but less range, and a faster firing rate? Instead of being obvious and throwing an easily seen boulder, be a little less conspicuous and try a lightning-fast pebble to someone's temple instead. Obviously, this would take more practice than most earthbenders would care to do. Seems like a "Dai Li" thing, don't you think?

Maybe airbenders should be able to create a vacuum in an area. Depriving people of much needed O2, no? Aye, it's uncharacteristic for airbenders, but maybe Aang would "accidentally" wind up using this as a result of some kind of emotional issue?

It's not impossible. Maybe the Anti-Avatar will use it to kill Katara.

And the pebble earthbending isn't much of a stretch at all, but a nice note

i was thinking about something along the same lines: since fire needs oxygen to ignite, thus airbenders should be able to control fire too, as long as their is a ready source of fire, since they cannot create it like true firebenders. additionally they should be able to bend lighting, since lighting is the neagtive and postive particles of 'air' being attracted towards eachother violently. i know it' s a kid's show set in a different universe. but still it could happen.

also the human body is made up of 2/3's of water. a master waterbender could technically control a person using that water.

The only problem with complete invisibility is that you would not be able to see either. Think about it...if all the the light waves are being bent around you there is no light reaching your eyes, and thus all you can see is darkness. So although no one could see you, you could not see anyone in return.

The only one who could possibly pull this off is the Avatar (as long as he can see like Toph can see) since he could firebend as well as see through earthbending. That or someone extremely good at hearing, which maybe Aang could use airbending or once again, earthbending to do since the idea of?? "sound-bending" has been thrown out there.

One thing I've been thinking about though, since there's always been the idea of Airbenders messing with the weather (tornados), is what an Avatar can do with the weather. They could not only create tornados, but floods, hurricanes, or even change a local climate. We saw how he changed the landscape by making a zoo, well, add that in with super cooling or super heating (airbending/waterbending and airbending/firebending respectively), and that's some pretty powerful stuff. Now, only if the Avatar could do something about gas prices...perhaps pressurize earth into an endless supply of coal? Well, I guess not totally endless. There is only so much land.
