Cosmic energy goes all the way back to New Age thinking.

The ideas behind a 'Cosmic Energy'??was??present long before 'New Age' thought was developed.

'New Age' is??considered to be a mixed bag of many philosophies.

However there are many references to??a 'Cosmic Energy'??in Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism??and other major Eastern religions which pre-date Christianity by approimately 500 years or so.

There are different terms for this energy. You might be more familiar with the terms 'Chi' as is understood by the Chinese and is translated as 'life energy' or 'Prana' in Sanskrit (which is the written language of 'Hindi' spoken by Indians from India) which means 'breath' or 'life sustaining energy.' And of course in Christianity??this energy force is understood as well,??God.

Here is a link to Wikipedia.com describing more about the crown chakra??and how many religions feel that through this chakra human beings are able to??communicate or become one with the 'Cosmic Energy.' This is the same energy the Guru helps Aang to connect to directly??through clearing the 7th or crown chakra.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahasrara

PS: There may indeed have been references to this energy in comic books or other forms of literature??however because the philosophy is so ancient it is clear that the idea is??a universal one and that many artists or authors have freely drawn from it,??rather than the other way around.
