Or it could NOT continue. You know, since that would be a bad idea. A thematic continuation would be tolerable, but would require new characters. This often ends badly.

To continue with the old characters, who have defeated the Big Bad, they would have to invent a whole new big bad like Dragon Ball Z (or every other anime and their mother). Neither solution seems good, as they would be jumping the shark, nuking the fridge, and frying the ostrich. Let it rest!
i agree....sometimes things are better the way it ends ....maybe a movie is best to find Ursa ...thats all

Ya no "killing the cow". On another note, anyone else notice all the new members?

    New? Where? o:

It isn't ranting if you know what you might possibly be talking about.

Dragon ball z way would be the best. I think they would be stupid to not continue cause that would end their cash flow.

Yeah about that....The reason why Avatar is ending is because there ISN'T any money in it for Nicktoons. Okay, to start off, let me just say that Nickelodeon Studios and Nicktoons are two totally seperate things. The studio creates the show, Nicktoons only airs it.

Season 1 afterschool ratings were very high in its first season on Nicktoons, but they fell off considerably by the end of season 2. The dip was so bad, Nicktoons and the studio fought over there would be a full third season. I guess Nicktoons thought they could wrap it up with 4-5 episodes. However, the studio ended up winning their arguement, despite the fact that Nicktoons had gone ahead to replace it. Thats why the its been on in such inconsistent bursts. Like this 4-part special coming months after the bulk of season 3.

Point is, Nickelodeon really likes the show, but they just aren't making enough money on it to keep it going. It's a very expensive show to make, first of all, and secondly: the linear story style of the show doesn't catch on among new audiences.

Just because DBZ is popular doesn't mean it's good. Comparing DBZ with Avatar is kind of silly. DBZ is about the battles, the story is merely an excuse to get the cast to fight bigger and stronger characters. In Avatar, the story and character development is way more important than battles.

For me, I'd be disappointed if they made a spin-off. Every story has a beginning and an ending and I think they've reached the ending here. Any spin-off or new powerful enemy would feel like milking the cow. The only spin-off I could see that could expand the story in a positive way would be one or more episodes as Tales of Ba-sing Sei, which would show what characters are doing now, seperately, after the war.

I really liked the ending, a nice mix of storytelling, action and emotions. The cinematic music was great. Azula was a bit of a downer, she always seemed in balance with herself, but now when she freaked out I was surprised. I guess Ty Lee and Mai's betrayal did more to her than we imagined. The lionturtle was weird, they could have had a better character or creature teach Aang to take away bending.
