I need a knoledgable Avatar fan for this question. Azula is a mystery to me. She seems to be the only firebender in the entire avatar universe capable of creating fire hot enough to be blue fire. The fire lord is supposed to be the most powerful firebender, but based on speculation he had to poison Fire lord Ozulon and when it shows him he never seems to bend blue fire in any way. Uncle Iroh is capable of difficult techniques like the lightning attack, yet his fire is not nearly as powerful. Jeong Jeong from Season one didnt either have the potential to bend blue fire, so it seems like he is also weaker. This only leads me to the possibility that Azula is not a regular firebender. I think she is the re-incaration of the spirit of the fire nation. If there is a spirit of the planet (the avatar), and spirits of moon, ocean etc. there might be a respective spirit for each nation. That would make sense because Azula seems to be the most powerful firebender ever. The same could be true for Bumi, he could be the descendant of the Earth spirit. Ideas and thoughts? Also, what is stopping Azula from taking the Fire Lord position herself? She is "a prodigy" and extremely powerful. It seems like she could take her own father, and she is rutheless enough to do so. Perhaps fire nation tradition say it is forbidden for female rulers, and she would not be able to rule. Thoughts on this as well?

We don't know if Iroh or Ozai can bend blue fire or not...

We only figured out Iroh could bend lightning a couple episodes ago. Who knows what the full extent of his power is...

I think the reason azula can bend blue fire is because she is a PRODIGEY?? that its!???? I don't think anyone else can bend blue fire because if they could they would choose so???????? But I have a theory that when sozin's comet arrives and they were talking about how it grants fire benders an extra amount of power. What if when the comet comes all fire benders bend blue fire!?? any thoughts?

That was just him redirecting lightning. I meant we've never seen him actually create it.

Yes we have. When he was teaching Zuko in that episode after the chase. His lightning was WAY more powerful than anything Azula has used yet.

See those tiny little specs? Those are Iroh and Zuko. CLEARLY Iroh is a thunderstorm compared to anything Azula has yet created with lightning. I'm sure Iroh can bend blue fire too, but is more unwilling to do so. He probably thinks it's unnecesary force. (He's never used lightning in battle either. This supports my theory.)

The excessive force thing may be true. Although I disagree with the lightning comment. Even though it appears that Irohs lightning is more powerful, I think Azula actually can do it better, the difference is hers is one strike, much more deadly and much more accurate. It would be really cool if the more powerful firebenders (Iroh, Azula, Ozai) could up their power when Sozen's comet comes and actually bend white fire, the most powerful fire ever. It would make sense because if Azula can bend blue fire regularly, the only fire more intense than blue is white fire.

why does it bother people that the masters in avatar dont have identical powers? people are talented at different things. this isnt a video game where when u complete or "master" a class or proffession and become identical to the guy next to you who also completed that class. Azula must be talented at using blue fire and lightning. Iroh showed us that he can make lightning too, but must not be as talented as azula at it. I would hate to see all masters use the same moves.

im just saying this out of thought, but looking at azulas and Irohs lighting styles, they are different colors and behaviors (Azulas: Blue and zaggy, Irohs: Green and smooth )are there like levels of use lighting or something like they do with firebending (red--blue--possible white)

like blue/green to maybe like yellow lighting or something

First off it doesn't bother me that they don't have the same moves, I'm saying its unusual the balances of power. For the person I quoted, fire isn't based on the person like lightning seems to be, it's based on the intensity and power, they addressed that in the show and when azula uses blue fire, when it hits things it loses heat and turns redish and the normal fire colors. I think the more powerful you are, the higher intensity fire you shoot, but its possible that characters like Iroh and Jeong Jeong kind of pull their punches so they don't kill people everytime they shoot fire. It seems they are both quite powerful, and its uknown to what extent. Iroh is a deep and mysterious character with a strong spiritual connection, it saddens me that he is leaving the show because of the death of his voice actor, he is such a good character.

If you notice how she fights...she uses two fingers...her bending abilities are precise and high powered...she's a prodigy...that means she excells at a great level and is naturally talented at a young age...I'm certain blue fire bending isn't an Azula exclusive move...

I dont think it takes real skill to create blue fire, just put more energy into the attack. Of course, this could just mean that she has incredibly high power as well as great skill and just bend willy-nilly. Also, we cant assume anything about Ozai's ability because we havent seen him fight, but id bet anything he's good. I mean, Roku is only worried about him, and he probably knows alot more than anybody else about everybody.

She probably hasn't gone after the position of firelord yet because, firelord is her dad so she probably gets everything she wants anyway, and odds are firelord is probably a much better firebender then azula, though we haven't seen him fight yet so anything is possible.

As for azula's bending blue fire, like others have said, she is a prodigy, she is a very powerful fire bender, I don't think there is much to blue firebending other than it just looks better than normal firebending.

My opinion the blue fire doesn't actually make her better, I think she is just that much better than everyone else.

I also like coolio's idea of white fire bending, more than likely Ozai can bend white fire, I guess we wait and see.

i don't know...that blue fire is powerful enough to slice up a building like roast beef...I'm with the idea that Iroh can actually use blue firebending(it could be said that he hasn't seen her use it, he was looking away when Azula hit him, so he might not even know she can do it), but it could be something that require more energy than he's willing to use at his old age...

Lets list some of the possibilities:
    1. Azula is special and is extra powerful, more so then any other character already seen fighting so far.
    2. Azula is a show off and waste the extra energy making her fire blue always rather then when is optimal.
    3. Blue fire is a state of mind not power, red fire being emotional and blue fire being clear demonic juggernaut like concentration and will.
Also I think purple would be next up over blue, not white, though any plasma would appear white if dense enough simply because of optical output, fusion hot plasma usually looks purple-white (depending on density) though is peak photon frequency its actually hard X-rays!

Azula is just different--like in the WaterTribes not everyone can heal and not everyone can bend. We can't conclude anything, it's just that different people are good at different things and that this is good character development.
