It's too soon to make any assumption about Ty Lee and Mai...
I still think that those two don't know the REAL Azula...the 100% Azula.

Have you ever heard of the popular mean girl bulling her friends into liking her...on the surface, but deep down, they could take her or leave her?

I'm on the opposite side...I think it's getting rediculous in the number of FOES against the Avatar. I'm sure some will go down soon, but geeze.
There are 2 more seasons to play out, so who knows what's really planned....
Mike and Bryan are pretty good at throwing curve balls for their show. ^_^

katara is a joke, they made her more powerful while keeping aang mediocore in waterbending, after showing that he had way more potentional then katara but an extremly quick learner as shown in the waterbending scroll, so aang would not have to work hard to be a waterbending master, he looked at the waterbending scroll once and mastered the water whip so how come aang isn't a master but katara is don't make me laugh, yeah for troph she is a true warrior, and should be way more powerful then katara

I thought I was the only one that raised an eyebrow at Katara's sudden awesome waterbending ability, since yes, it was established early on that Aang picked up things learning wise, faster than she did.?? But then again, I suppose if she was still the medicore waterbending Katara while Aang had managed to master waterbending (Is it just me, or has he barely if not at all, used water bending this season?) then she was be less important.?? (Having Aang too powerful too soon would get really boring and repetitive.)

As for Azula's new friends, I'm a bit curious as to whether they're a threat:

I believe power wise, they are.?? Aang seemed to have a bit of trouble with Azula himself so them actually throw down fighting will be interesting.?? As for Mai, Katara seemed to be able to hold her own very well until Lee got involved.?? Yet Soka was able to help out there with Oppa.?? So in the end, I think it depends on who is challenging who:

Katara vs Azula could be interesting as both seem to be very good in their bending ablities but if worse comes to worse, it might be better if Aang took her on because he could go into Avatar State if things just got down right ridiculously bad.

Katara (IMO) has already proven she can take care of Mai on her own, however, her problem lies with Lee, who is very agile, flexiable, swift and more importantly, has the power to cease all of Katara (or any bender though the avatar's is questionable) bending abilities, which thus, renders her helpless. (I agree with the statement that she depends on said bending abilities others, Sokka would have the advantage.)

I think Lee should be left of to Sokka believe?? it or not.?? Her pressure points would have no effect because he can't water bend, so it would come down to fighting skill, and this is were Sokka seems to excel.?? She has flexibility and agility on her side but if Sokka can find her weakness, then he could still win.

But now that the Earth Bender has joined the team (I can not remember her name right now), there's not telling the posibilites.?? Sneaking up on her (unless your an Airbender) seems almost impossible as she can simply feel everything around her: Lee may have the advantage there because she's light on her feet, but I think Azula and Mai are out on that one.?? She's very powerful and packes a punch, so if Katara could take care of Mai, I think she got Mai beat. Azula is another issue, since apparently, she's extraordinary in her bending powers (the girl has different colored flames and can use lightening...)

As for the characters as a whole:

It seemed obvious to me that while Lee considers Azula a friends, she's by no means stupid.?? She could read right through the lines: either join me or I'll make your life a living hell.?? She chose the safest road.?? I do believe if Azula crosses the line by any means, she would eventually say something or even join up with Aang and the gang.??

I hate to say it, but I think Mai may come down to shipping.?? She apparently still likes Zuko and we aren't sure about his feelings for her as of now.?? Though if Mai still likes Zuko and those feelings are strong enough, she might just turn her back on Azula once she figures out what Azula is trying to do with Zuko.?? (Azula only said they had to track down Zuko and his uncle, I don't think she mentioned they were POW or even they might have to be excuted.) I don't think it would be all fluffed out (that would scare me) but she'd probably just join Zuko or something.?? Unless she comes to the conclusion he's a failure and disgrace to the Fire Nation and sides with Azula.?? Besides, she doesn't seem very loyal from the start: the only reason she seems to join in the first place is because she's completely bored.?? She lacks loyality and that's something I think that will come back to bite Azula in the butt.

So you have two girls that are with Azula: childhood friends but one joining in what seems out of a fear (though not shown outright) and one out of sheer bordom.?? The only one of the three that might have any loyality is Lee and I think that only goes so far, and we all should know by now Azula would stab anyone she has too in the back while I think Mai isn't too far behind.

No loyality.?? No trust.?? No team.?? That's something Aang's team have that Azula's does not, so they have the advantage in that degree.?? As far as fighting goes, like I said: pitting the right person against the right person:

    Aang-Azula

    Katara-Mai

    Sokka/Earth Bending Blind Girl-Lee

Though I AM very curious as to how Zuko will fair agasint all three: he didn't seem like he could beat Azula (and even more so now that he's tired and weary and etc.) let along, a weapons expert (that may or may not go easy on him) and a chick that can totally disrupt his fire bending.

Rambling, I'll stop.?? But man, this season rocks.

well...what are we looking at? someone that can disable katara's water bending abiltiy (which raises an intersting question about what bending really is) but we don't know if that works on air or earth...a deadly knife wielder and of course the deadliest person in the show(in terms of motivation, fighting skillz, and intelligence)...so i'd say hell yeah they're a threat...but what remains to be seen is how they pose the threat

I agree there....Sokka's rationale and smarts are above the others....Don't get me wrong, Aang and Katara are smart...but Sokka's sarcasm, linear thinking and lack of bending is what makes him more of a survivor. That, and he doesn't have Katara's temper or Aang's innocence. I have to be careful here...since all the 12-14 year olds will jump all over me for having different opinions. >_>
BUT....Bending seems to limit the bender in a way.
They have these gifts, but they are also dependent on those gifts. If they're taken away (by Ty Lee for example) they're worse off than someone that has NO warrior/surivor background.

thats true but people like aang(i'm sure their are other benders out there that know more then just bending, take zuko for example who is skilled with dual swords along with his fire bending) can still fight even without their bending... sadly I can't say the same for katara

the smple fact is NO ONE in the "hero" party has shown an ability to fight physically except Sokka...Ang uses his staff to whip wind at you and Katara has about as much fighting ability as a dead person...and about Katara suddenly getting powerful at waterbending...don'g forget she trained with the master at the north pole...she even took it to Zuko and held her own...there was no real way to tell how long they were in the north water tribe...coulda have been 4 days or 4 weeks so its possible she got better...and someone brought up a point i also have been saying...Ang hasn't used waterbending more than twice(the octopus??move and in the Swamp) but so far not in battle...Toph's introduction to the group is gonna make things very interesting...can't wait to see how it turns out

Well i don't know if thats completly true about Zuko, i mean with Azula, he only tried to beat her at fire bending, we havent seen how well he would fair with his broad swords, let alone comebining the two. With Mai, even if she doesn't go easy on him, Zuko could probably hold his own and as for ty lee, even if?? zuko let??ty lee get close enough??to prevent zuko??from firebending, he is still a good fighter??(unlike katara who is like a dead fish). What you also need to keep in mind is that unlike aang and co, zuko grew up with these three so even though he has been in exil??he would have a better idea of what they are capible of and what their weaknesses are. Also Azula probably still??thinks that Zuko is the helpless little boy she remembers and in all likely hood is not aware of the extent of Zukos ability. Lastly I think that Zuko probably??wouldn't try to take the three of them headon, he would probably take them out one at a time like he did with the guards in "the blue spirit".

I agree, and I'll go one further...Zuko probably has no idea how far HE
can go. He's tough, smart, and a competent bender, but there's nothing
but more potential for him. Azula's probably piqued too soon. (same for
    Katara).

Humility and self esteem issues can mask what skills he really has.

Arrogance and sadistic behavior (like in Azula) can mask that she has
no more skill left to hone. And therefore, because of her arrogance,
she lacks the potential to get even better.

Plus, I think Zuko has enough to deal with--self actualization, better bending skills, 'enlightenment' regaining the throne and maybe turning the Fire Nation into a "good" place again, getting back on track in his people's eyes, gaining more...etc etc etc. I hardly think fighting his Sister and her friends+ any shipping love fans may have in mind are anywhere on his to do list. Would romance be on your mind when you're that depressed and facing a load of trouble most people double his age?? don't have?
    Iroh gets that.
Honestly, Zuko never showed any signs of being interested in Mai or Ty Lee at all...they were pests, as we saw in Zuko Alone. He'll fight Azula if he has to. I don't think he'd go looking for a fight with that chick.
Now, TOPH shows more promise than anyone.
She's smarter than most, and poised too. (I also think she's kinda funny, heh) Toph added to the group may push AANG further than Katara, and bring the balance of power back.
I do agree that it's rediculous that she's somehow stronger than Aang, that's oh...the AVATAR? And he's meant to bend ALL 4 elements? Iy-yah.
Sokka can only get stronger, and better.
    Katara, like Azula, has piqued.(IMHO)
Now, I don't like all the Katara bashing, but I agree...She's Aang's first crush, and if there is something to develop between Aang and Toph--I think THAT bond will be stronger, since there seems to be more chemestry there.
The only one that knows what's going on in Katara's mind and heart, is Mike and Bryan. ^_~
Esh...that was farrrrr offf the line I started on sorry! Yikes.

Katara did train with a master, but ang never uses his water bending so we don't really know how far along his skills are...in fact i've only see him use his water bending (when not training) three times...once on a boat to split a falling mast in half and again to rescue Bumi and Floppsy (he froze the chain and broke it)...Azula showed how obsessive she is with getting better in the lightning bending(thats what i call it) when she got pissed for having a hair out of place "Almost isn't good enough!!"...and we have yet to see her go all out in a battle...Zuko has shown another level to his firebending in causes fire to shoot from his twin blades so he's advancing too...and Toph...at this stage in the series she's??already one of the most powerful benders in the show

    So did Aang...
Azula already shows what she can do, if you think about it. I think Iroh's the only one we've seen that can temper her.
Just shows you how her arrogance blinds her on HIS skill level, you can only imagine what Iroh taught Zuko.
    She's tough, no one's saying she isn't.
But every arrogant bully in villian-history falls.
The prodeucers/writers themselves said she's the only 100% evil character.
Which leads me to think whatever's Ozai's past is now more interesting to me now...hmm....

As far as I'm concerned, Mai and Ty Lee are very powerful together, when compared to the three of them working together.

Azula doesn't have the bond with either of the girls that they both have together and her superior bending pretty much eliminates the need for fancy tricks and maneuvers.

For Zuko and Aang, there's no where to go but up with their skills. Zuko is a mixture of a warrior and bender (he is one of the powerful benders to incorporate weapons into his bending). Meanwhile, Aang's the fugging Avatar.

My only explanation for him sucking at waterbending is the fact that he doesn't carry a waterskin and they rarely fight near a lake or something. And then one can say that he just prefers airbending.

I don't think they pst too much of a threat but they still work together well. Though Mai never really hurts anyone physicly and i have no idea why azula would even need a team. Coz she's still one angry firebending b**ch by herself and ty lee is dangerous but she just doesn't seem as evil as other firebenders ( you know with all the catrwheeling stuff and teaching a bear to walk on his front paws she seems more airbender even if she is from the fire nation)

lonfg story short yeh they do post a threat but not a huge one
