To adress your other remarks, we have no idea how quickly Azula achieved her Firebending skills, but we do know that she was already a brilliant Firebender at the age of 7, at which point Katara hadn't even discovered she could bend (as far as we know).

In addition to her incredible bending, Azula has also found time to become an incredible acrobat and martial arts combatant, and has implied knowledge of shruiken fighting too. Katara has nothing on Azula's tactical genius, manipulation, brilliant lies, general awareness, or charisma. And is if that wasn't enough, Azula is also a history freak who has apparently memorized several textbooks by heart. Beat that Katara.

In the final analysis, Azula's slide into insanity was the ultimate deus ex machina; necessary if her opponents were going to ever stand a chance.

I think you missed my point. Azula began mastering her bending powers much earlier than Katara, yes, yet Katara was able to become more than a match for her in a straight up fight in just a few months of training.

In CoD, if you'll recall, Katara had Azula effectively immobilized with her water-tenticle thingies until Zuko blasted them away.

Also, Azula's descent into madness was not a "deus ex machina" at all but was a necessary outcome of her built in heartlessness and reliance on manipulation. Her madness was, thus, simply the culmination of her serious character flaws.

There's a line in the first post of this thread restricting this place to praise of Azula, to the exclusion of pretty much everything else. But since you've gone ahead and posted this, I guess I'll respond.

Azula descent into maddness was the culmination of 7 - 8 years of utterly rejecting all such emotions as love and trust after her mother's apparent rejection convinced her that "trust is for fools".

My reference to her maddness as a deus ex machina was based purely on how it affected the fight; if Azula had been sane during the fight she would have triumphed.

Yes, in CoD, Katara got Azula out with a fast, unexpected shot. Azula did the same thing to Aang later in the fight. Does that make Azula more powerful or skilled than Aang? No (even I, the most crazed Azula fan of all, admit that). And then there was Azula's later smashing of Katara into the pillar of crystal, a nice little moment of revenge.

You have yet to provide Katara's answer for Azula's incredible variety of skills, and the uses to which she put them. Katara may be a contender as far as bending goes, but in all else she goes down, hard.

Katara was to Azula what Scipio Africanus was to Hannibal Barca, what the Duke of Wellington was to Napoleon Bonaparte, what Vercingetorix was to Caesar, what Chu was to Shi Huang Di; someone who managed to catch a far more talented opponent off guard.

That may be true. But the bottom line is Azula had a crippling hamartia. Katara did not.

If someone is talented, then they cannot be that talented to by caught of guard, correct? I love Azula, and she is utterly beautiful and fantastic along with Katara, but everyone has their flaws. Katara used that to her advantage. A real warrior of great intellect would totally absorb their surroundings, and make every single body part aware of any attack.

I am in no way insulting Azula, but declaring by opinion. Had Azula been more cautious, then maybe her blade of hair would not have been sliced. Everyone has their moments. Azula's had thousands of great moments, and she just had one tiny slip up in the crystal catacombs.

As for the 'deux es machina,' Azula's grip on her shattering reality was needed, it wasn't a 'deux es machina.' Nearly a decade of locked emotions culminated into her insanity, which had to be portrayed in the series finale. I think the real 'deux es machina' would have to Aang's energybending. No one thought of that!

Right Sal. Azula's talent peaked in DOBS, then, lady Macbeth style, started to slip.

Katara only continued to get better right through the finale.

    Okay...now I'm leaving.

Nice use of the word "hamartia". I always like classical references.

I hope this hasn't done anything to our friendship. But this thread was created so that we crazed Azula fans could bask in our reflected fanaticism, and we wrere a bit put out to have someone attempting to shut that down. So we shut you down.

Any time that you feel like praising Azula though, feel free to drop back in, and your name will go off the banished list

Umm no, everyone is caught off guard at least once, no matter how talented.

Look at USA, they're army and defenses are superior to most, and yet they were caught off guard with 9/11.

Katara didn't use Azula's flaws to her advantage in CoD, she just caught her off guard, describe the scene where Katara allegedly used Azula's flaws to her advantage.

No. No. Just a friendly debate Ax.

It's just your guys were ripping on Katara in the KCC thread so I retaliated.

That's one of the few points I didn't like about the finale. I don't think Katara should have been the one to defeat Azula, but I guess the writers couldn't figure out what to do with her.

I would have much preferred Zuko, re-direct Azula's lightning and have her assume she could do the same, but alas for her it doesn't go through the stomach but the heart, and she dies.

But what are you gonna do?

I did not authorize this. Somebody is about to be chastised mightily

And yes, you have been banished. At the bottom of the first post there is a list of people who have come to this thread and done something other than praise Azula, and who have been banished from this club. Only by praising Azula can said people hope to restore their honor.
