    Guide Submission:

Before submitting stuff to the guide, make sure it is accurate! If it's a quote your submitting, make sure the quote is as accurate as possible (don't just guess). It might be helpful to tape all the episodes (or buy the DVDs) and review the episode before submitting a quote. If it's an allusion you're submitting, provide a link to where I can find proof of the allusion. If it's a new episode title, you definitely have to provide a link!

If you spot any errors in the guides, please don't hesitate to fix them!

When submitting anything, paragraph tags ( and except without the apostrophes) are not necessary. All you need to do is enter the proper number of spaces in the submission box and it will show up that way in the guide (if accepted). For example, if this is what is you submit:

This will show up in the guide as:

Here are the proper formats for each of the items:

    Quotes:

Quite simple here. Just try to be as accurate with your quotations as possible.

    Speaker 1
(who they are talking to or what they are doing, etc.): Hi there.
    Speaker 2: Howdy.

    Example:

    Notes:

Notes are facts about an episode. It can be about anything about any character, place or whatever that was revealed in the episode. It can also be any of the following:
    Hero Debut: Aang
    Enemy Debut: Zhao
    Creature Debut: Shirshu
Running Gags: [insert running joke in episode]
Look Hard: [insert something which may not be obvious to the average viewer]

If you can think of something else, either PM me about it, or just submit it and see what happens!

    Allusions:

Anything in the show that is related to something in the outside world.
    Example:
The fighter Jun arm wrestles at the bar is based off various Street Fighter 2 characters, such as Guile and Ryu.
    or:
    Zhao
: My favorite show is The Cosby Show.
Zhao is obviously referring to the 1980's sitcom The Cosby Show.

    Trivia:

Trivia items should be goofs. Don't ask me why this category isn't titled just "Goofs" but we'll deal with it anyway. This is just anything the writers or animators might have goofed up on. Example: In "The Avatar State" Kyoshi is revealed to be the Avatar before Roku. However, in "The Southern Air Temple", the statue next to Roku's is not of Avatar Kyoshi.

    Episode Summaries/Recaps:

Just format it like you would if you were writing a paper for school. Except it should be single spaced with no indentations. And not boring.

    Episode Cast/Crew:

This should only include official information from Nick, or that which was revealed on a star's personal blog, site, etc. Example: Daniel Samonas revealed several days before on his site that he would be voicing Teo in "The Northern Air Temple" so it would have been acceptable to put his name in there. TVGuide.com is not always that reliable in terms of casting information.

    Submission Process Timetable:

I will not accept submissions for episodes until they air on the East Coast US time, unless it is simple information revealed in a trailer for an episode (i.e. The quote 'Aang: Just like old times, eh Bumi?' was
revealed in the trailer for that episode and was previously accepted into the guide). If you happen to watch an episode before it airs on iTunes, either hold your submission until it airs or realize I will not even look at your submission until it airs for the first time on
Nickelodeon. Many, including myself, prefer to watch the episode on TV the first time rather than on the Internet, so please be respectful of that.

Normally submissions will be processed within 2-4 days. Over the summer this may be longer. This is mainly because new episodes do not usually air during the summer, and I do have to have a life.

    Reviewing of Episodes:

In relation to reviewing episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender:

    1. Please do not post reviews until the episode finally airs in the US. This site is for intelligent discussions of TV shows and "OMG THIS EPISODE IS ABOUT ZUKO SO ITS GONNA ROCK!!" is not an acceptable review. Reviews submitted before an episode aired will be reported to the TV.com staff.

    2. No curse words in the reviews please. Although there are many adults who visit this site, there are also many kids, as this show is rated Y-7. Please be respectful of that.

    3. Please used proper grammar and spelling. Online your identity is shown through how you communicate and structure those communications. If you think it is "cool" to not capitalize letters, punctuate sentences properly and use proper English, you give other people a bad impression of yourself. This can also apply to the forums.

Thank you for understanding. You won't be reported for violations of number 3, unless it is so hard to read it's confusing. Please try to make your reviews at least readable.

    Verifying of Sources
    :

When creating a new thread or post, or submitting a new episode title and description, please consider the source. If it's from Nick.com's official site, it's valid (unless it's air dates). If it's TVGuide.com, it's most likely valid (again they may mix up an air date or two here and there).

But information from Wikipedia.org or IMDB.com should not be cited here unless corroborated (confirmed) by another source. Anyone can edit those sites, and at IMDB, the person who looks at the submissions likely has no clue what the Avatar is. Wikipedia your information goes live without and delay.

Don't get me wrong. IMDB is a GREAT source for movies, especially those that have already aired. It is one of the most popular sites, even more popular than TV.com. However, their staff is not all that careful in keeping their TV guides correct. Many false episode titles and descriptions have been found there on that site. Animation Insider is even a good source, as is Toon Zone. These are sites who actually have people who have watched Avatar and only post correct information.

This site, TV.com, is most times a good source for info on Avatar as well.

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone without delay. Therefore it may not always contain correct information. So unfortunately this is not a reliable source of information either for this show. That site too has editors but people can vandalize the pages before the editors can come to fix it up.

So please be careful before posting new information. Make sure you verify what you hear from any source before posting it here, just to keep our information here accurate and up-to-date. Thanks!

    Forum Posting:

If you are new to our forum, welcome! The Avatar: The Last Airbender guide is one of the most popular on TV.com, as is this show forum. However, there are a few things I would like to bring to your attention before posting:
    • Please read the TV.com Terms of Service to see what is acceptable in posts/threads and what is not. The TOS will be enforced by myself (the local forum moderator), as well as the TV.com moderators.
    • Off-topic threads are prohibited in this forum. This forum's sole purpose is for discussion of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and everything related to it. If you're looking for an Off-topc forum, see TV.com's Off-topic forum or visit other sites and use their off-topic boards.
    • Keep it kid-appropriate. Avatar is a Y-7 rated show, and while it may have a large following among older individuals, it is not appropriate to post cuss words, etc. because kids often visit these forums, and most parents do not want their kids subject to that kind of stuff.
    • Please use the "Directory of Threads on AVATAR FORUM" thread, which is pinned on the first page. This thread may be useful, as it lists most of the threads we have in the forum.
    • Make note of the Pinned threads. There is a Relationship discussion thread to discuss any relationship between any characters in the show, there is a thread to discuss the most recent episode (usually, unless there's a really long break), there is an "Ask a Question, Get an Answer" thread where you can find answers to common questions you may have about the show (such as "What do the s on Aang's body mean?," etc.), and there is also a "Spoilers of Future Episodes" thread where you can share and find of spoilers for future episodes. If the subject of your potential thread may fit into any of those, please save TV.com the space and bandwidth from creating a new thread and just add a post in the existing thread.
    • No Character Sucks threads. Such as "Sokka Sucks!!!". Not even Azula
    AMENDMENTS:
    1. Per the wishes of the TV.com staff, no screenshot or picture threads will be permitted in this forum. One screenshot per post on a topical thread is ok as long as it relates to the topic. Try to keep screenshots to a minimum though. (Added 12/30/06)
    2. Fanfics should not be posted here. As one user stated "This is TV.com, not Fanfiction.net." This forum is to be used for discussion of Avatar the TV show, not fictional works created by fans. Fanart threads/links are permitted (but everyone should not create their own fanart thread, one could be created for all to show off their work in). But fanfiction should not exist here in any form, as more times than not fanfiction has little to nothing to do with the show and is just baseless fan theory. Even if your fanfic does have some relation to the show, please don't post it here. (Added 12/30/06)
    3. If an existing thread for a game already exists, a new thread for the same game should not be created unless approved by the Mod (yours truly). Inactivity is not a valid reason for wanting to start a game over on a new thread, because a game could just as easily be started again using the same thread. (Added 12/30/06)
    4. If you spot a repeat thread, do not post "This is a DUPLICATE!" or any similar messages in the thread. If another thread already is discussing a topic, please politely PM me the link to the thread and I will take care of it. And please refrain from calling new users names, as it just gives TV.com and these forums a bad reputation and less people will want to visit this site. Please be respectful of other users. (Added 02/13/07)
    5. Please do not create threads for the purpose of asking personal questions. This includes phone numbers, addresses, ages, etc. These threads aren't related to Avatar and are also suspicious. If you're trying to do a study on typical Avatar fans, PM me and ask if it's all right. If you want to write about yourself, use the "About Me" section on your profile or write a blog. Remember that writing personal information on the internet can be dangerous. [Added 4/1/08]
    VIOLATIONS:
    1. Threads and/or posts found violating the TV.com TOS or any of these other rules will now be reported to the TV.com staff and they will take proper actions. (Added 02/13/07)

Thank you for reading through all this, and please follow these guidelines, as it took me a while to compile them all. Please help keep the Avatar forum one of the most active, yet clean and non-repetitive, forums on TV.com! Thanks again!

    Regarding Sigs and Icons:

Please do not post clips or pictures from episodes not aired in the US, as the majority of users here are from the US. If you fail to follow this, you'll be reported to the TV.com and your icon and/or sig will be removed by them, and contribution points will be lost.

Hotlinking is an iffy-enough practice as is as it can strain another site's bandwidth when they don't wish outside sites to do so.

Given recent incidents, TV.com would like to make sure it's clear to everyone how posting offensive images on the site will be handled. From this point forward, any image in a post you create that is offensive, degrading, contains nudity, etc., will be moderated appropriately.

Unless you are 100% sure the image you post won't be replaced by an offensive image if you hotlink to it, don't link to it.

If you're not sure, and choose to gamble, then you're taking your chances. Particularly offensive images can result in an immediate ban.

If you have questions regarding the policy, please contact one of the site moderators or a staff member.

    Thank you.

In case it isn't clear, any disruptive off-topic post that does not contribute to discussion is a violation of TV.com policy.

Yes, that means "In before the lock" or any variant therein is a TOS violation.

Such violations will typically result in a short-term suspension, which will be considered when looking at a ban if further TOS violations occur.

The Avatar forum is for the discussion of the Avatar TV show. Per tv.com policy, personal matters should be posted in personal blogs. Questions and concerns about moderations should be posted in the About the Forums: Ask the Mods forum.

If people have evidence that any individual was unjustly or accidentally banned, they should send an e-mail to support@tv.com.

Very few users get banned from a single violation and no recent instances of this have occurred among regular Avatar forum users. Typically, it takes more than 20 violations before a user is banned and a warning is sent as each violation is moderated.

A few reminders per the Terms of Service:

It's not acceptable to make off-topic posts simply because other users are not on-topic.

Posts that don't substantially add to the discussion are not permitted (i.e. In before the lock).

Rants and random comments are disruptive and not permissible.

You are responsible for anything you post including quoting other posts.

While a small amount of off-topic posting is understandable and tolerated, a repeated history of posting material that is not constructive to the topic on hand is a TOS violation and is subject to moderation.

Signatures should be no more than 200 pixels tall x 550 pixels wide. This applies to the complete signature area, not each image or line. Essentially, if your signature causes a scrollbar to appear, it's too large.

There has been a recent upswing in such activities, and increased moderation as a result. Once it is brought to our attention, we have to moderate any and all reports consistently.

People seem to have "censorship" confused with topicality. There are hundreds of Avatar fans, and each one has a blog where he can talk about anything he wants. There is only one place set aside to talk about Avatar. We ask that discussions which are outside the scope of the show be posted in the appropriate forum or a personal blog. That's topicality rather than censorship.

TOS policy can basically be summed up like this:

Q: Why are there so many rules? How can anyone possibly follow them all?
A: There are really only about eight basic things you can do to violate tv.com forum policy. They all pretty much boil down to basic netiquette - "play nice and don't do anything illegal." The extra explanations are provided for the users' benefit to help define those two things. We have hundreds of users making thousands of posts each day, and the vast majority of posters handle the rules just fine.

As long as you provide constructive discussion about the show and avoid making hostile and insulting comments, you won't have a problem.

    Thank you,
    TV.com Moderators

No posting any spoilers from the book on this forum, except on this thread: OFFICIAL "SOZIN'S COMET" THE BOOK thread *POSSIBLY MASSIVE SPOILERS*.

    Thanks.

If someone posts a spoiler, do not quote it, or if you have to quote it, at least edit out the spoilers. This makes it easier for me to get rid of spoilers.

Remember, you are responsible for what you quote. Either don't quote or edit the quote.

We appreciate that it's summer and folks have a lot of time on their hands. And that the finale is coming up. Just a few reminders...

Finale discussion goes to the designated finale/spoiler thread.

    Be polite, be courteous.

There is an off-topic lounge, Use that for off-topic postings.

Avoid excessive quoting of previous posts.

As a discussion board, please discuss things. Just posting an image is considered Disruptive.

If someone trolls or posts a spoiler in the wrong place, report it and ignore it. If you respond, all you're doing is keeping the thread at the top of the forum. Doing that is itself a violation of Terms of Service.

With the increased traffic and increasing # of violations, TV.com moderators will use "speeding ticket" moderations as necessary. What does this mean? We will issue shorter-term suspensions but after only a single violation. We use this when it appears that a poster is deliberately and blatantly violating the TOS.

Since these suspensions will take moderated users off the boards past the finale air date, we'd advise everyone to make sure their posts don't violate the TOS. If you want to ensure you can't post during the show's finale... well, that's up to you.

Given all the issues we recently had with people going off-topic and the suspensions and bans that resulted, TV.com staff and moderators do not want clubs involving mostly... off-topic discussion. If you want to create a thread to discuss a particular character, create the thread and discuss the character. Off-topic posts within those threads will be moderated accordingly.

Off-topic discussion should go to the one off-topic thread that the forum is permitted.

If folks want to have private clubs, or further off-topic discussion with friends, that is what blogs are for. Use your personal sig line, put a link in it to the blog where it's hosted.

All relevant unpinned and unapproved club threads have been locked. No TOS violations have been handed out for off-topic posting in the Avatar forum because of this. Attempts to create new clubs will be moderated accordingly.

TV.com appreciates that members of a community want to have a chance to get together and chat about non-Avatar stuff as friends. That's why we provide an off-topic lounge and personal blogs. Excessive off-topic threads clutter up the forum and make it difficult for actual discussion of the show to occur. They also lead to fighting, rivalry, and excessive bumping as each club tries to make sure their thread stays near the top.

The same applies to games. There is a set limit of four games per forum, to prevent clutter and excessive bumping. All but the four most popular games have been moved to the TV Show Fun & Games forum. Creation of new games will be treated as any other TOS violation.
