    I'm not talking about a cartoon here, that was only one of my examples; LOTR and Harry Potter are books, and Star Wars is a movie, those aren't cartoons

    I feel like the explaination for robes will do for now, what about long hair?

    In real life, how come in the last 200 years in first world countries most men progressed to pants and short hair while women remained with long hair and robe-like attire (dresses (at least until the 70s/80s))?
