I dont know if someone has asked this, but could there be some hidden 'code' that an Avatar is not supposed to love or develop an intimate relationship with someone or reproduce? My friend just started watching Avatar when "The Library" came on and she asked that question. What do you think? If someone as already asked this, sorry!!!

We were wondering because as of yet no family for Roku or Kyoshi has been mentioned. Thanks for the input!

Well, even if there was, who is gonna tell Aang? The extinct Airbenders?

Besides, if Aang doesn't reproduce, the Avatar is screwed anyway. The cycle will go 'water', 'earth', 'fire'... whoops, Aang didn't get funky and there aren't any Airbenders! Looks like the world is screwed.

Face it, Aang. Even after you save the world from the Fire Nation, the future will rest on your ability to seduce either Katara or Toph.

(Personally, I say Toph, if only because they're closer in age. Plus, it would have a nice symmetry if Katara gets together with Zuko. Opposites attract and whatnot.)

But even if he does, can a baby born from people of two nations have both bending powers? And what if everytime an Air avatar is born, Aang is reincarnated?

I remember a long time ago on this post that someone said they hoped Aang would be Katara's mate and the father of her children. Since the next avatar is Water, they had hoped that Katara's child would be the next avatar. I thought that was very very cool hahahhaa.

Well... everytime ANY avatar is born, Aang will be reincarnated. That's the whole point. The next Avatar, for example, will be the reincarnation of Aang. And the next one, and so on and so forth.

And if Aang and Katara have a child, it won't be the next Avatar. For one thing, it would mean that Aang would have to DIE right after concieving the child. Which probably wouldn't be "very very cool" for Katara, don't you think? Not funny at all.

there hasn't really been any international action going on, the nations kind of lived separately it was only after the war started that the ppls started getting mixed (ie. fire troops in earth kingdom, escaped water tribe in fire nation ect) so if it is possible the people who would be able to do 2 elements probably wouldn't even know (no teachers not part of their heritage) so as of yet no one can use 2 elements besides the avatar that can use all four do to mystic forces

But what Katara has some airbending children, and just before she gives birth,Aang has to go fight some rebellion somewhere and dies just as the waterbender is born?Th birth of the new Avatar does not cause the old one to die,the old ones death causes the new Avatar to be born.Remember chapter 6 of book 3.

another avatar isn't born till the current one dies, if the avatar has a kid it won't be the next avatar its just aang is the last air bender so if he doesn't start making more by the time the cycle gets back to air they're won't be any air benders to be the avatar
