If I may be so mean as to interject, but song selection leaves much to be desired. Even the best AMVers in the world would have a tough time doing all the things that make an AMV worth watching. As to me, I don't care how good you are, an AMV to Soulja Boy or Fallout Boy(don't care if I offend Fallout Boy fans) is gonna be as off the mark as Shaq attempting a 3 pointer.

You know, I heard a song that was nearly as depressing as American Pie the other day and I thought it would make a very good video for what you're looking for in this contest. Maybe you could have people say "I'd like to do it with this song, is that ok?" Then Hydra can O.K. the song if he so chooses. If it's too fast or non-finale-ish, Hydra can reject it and make the contestant choose another song.
Just a suggestion, since even I would find it nearly impossible to do American Pie the justice it deserves.
