Came across an article (dated March 7, 2006) on scifi.com about AtLA's dvd volumes and there was an interesting note at the bottom:

The second 20-episode season of Avatar
(the "Earth" book, where the first season was the "Water" book) is set
to launch on Nickelodeon on March 17. Here's hoping it's as popular as
the first season, and that the entire series???reportedly planned for a
    60-episode story arc???gets completed as a result.

    http://www.scifi.com/sfw/anime/sfw12366.html

I assume that the sci-fi channels website would be somewhat credible. I also dont know if this was common knowledge, i just thought i'd share the info.

So i guess Book 3: Fire is the last season. i wonder if at the end of the series, Aang has to sacrifice himself to stop the comet and/or the firelord. if so, it is a possibility that they start fresh with a new avatar which would be born in the water tribe. perhaps katara's or sokka's kid? i dunno, just running my mouth, now.

    enough of my rantings....

Well I had gone for some time thinking there was going to be a season for each element, so its just as well you share this. I am disappointed that avatar will be cut short, but at the same time, I don't want the crew to alter their master plan based on the wishes of the fandom.

i agree. but also, if aang really is the last airbender, then there woulndt be anything to show for a whole book for the air element

The article date said March 07, but I read another article soon after stating there had been talk of extending the series past three seasons. Just talk though. SOLELY talk.

The article Freakish is talking about is here:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/ent_radio/story/399973p-338877c.html

"According to the creators, "Avatar" was designed to be a three-season story line, including a big finale. Talks are said to be underway, though, to continue the series beyond the initial plan."

do you have the link? or look up the link on this? i'm surprised how little information or articles there are on Avatar. i guess im biased but i assumed it was one of Nick's top shows right now.

but anyways, any info would be great. im always lookin for fresh news. or at least news i havent read yet

In "Book 1: Water" how many episodes were spent not involving water as an element or the Water Tribes. I count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 episodes which focused on "Water" during the "Water" season. Twice they went to air temples, once they went to the Fire Nation, several times they were in Fire Nation-sieged cities (in the Earth Kingdom) and the rest they were spent in the Earth Kingdom. So essentially less than 1/3 of the episodes of "Book 1: Water" were spent dealing with Water. Just because the season is titled after an element doesn't mean all the episodes in that season have to be about it.

"Book 4: Air" could be about about the rebuilding of the world, the diminishing Fire Nation Empire (like Rome) and maybe the revealing of Malu, the Ghost Witch.

very true. but i dont think avatar would be what it is without some impending danger i.e. the war, ppl chasing after the avatar, etc, etc.

although the creators are more than capable in creating great plotlines full of twists and surprises, i just dont know whats next in store for the world they live once peace is restored and the war is over (assuming aang does the job)
