They are making 3 live action movie adaptations, one for each season. Bryke will be executive producers of the movies, and have said that they will possibly make a spin off after the movies are over. The first movie is in pre-production, and is scheduled to be released july 2010.

According to Avatar Wiki, a supposed New Series is in early development, and has been confirmed in an interview with one of the two creators, Michael Dante Dimarti. Click Here for the Wiki page. Click Here for the Interview page. Sorry if this is old news, I just found it .

This is evidence that I found to prove that they have been in the development process of creating this new series. The creators both want to do more within the Avatar universe.

All the talk about a new series/sequel will taint the show is just talk . If they made such a beautiful masterpiece of animation with Avatar, who says they can't improve or simply continue their work in another epic storyline? There have been so many ideas put out here in the forums for potential sequels. Clearly there's a lot the creator's could work with. Don't give up hope just yet. This was put out there by the creators, unless they make an announcement somewhere about them abandoning the potential for avatar, I'm going to stick to looking forward to the future of Avatar. The finale left so much left open... especially the future of the Avatar universe. Questions as big as, "How will the world recover after the war?" and, "Since the Avatar was the supposed last airbender, it would require him to have children who are airbenders, or he could search for any remaining airbenders. This would be neccessary in order to continue the cycle of the avatar legacy." And, "Where is Zuko's mother, Ursa?"

It would be a shame if the creators left the series, and us, with such cliffhangers and little closure, except for all those shippers out there...

Oh, and click Here for the poster that some people were looking for.
