I realize this will probably fall on deaf ears, or more likely will simply be pushed down by the rush of new topics following the finale, which I must say was perhapse one of the greatest episodes of any show I've seen.

My message is this. RESTRAINT. Restraint for all fans of all ships.

To Kataang people: Yes, Zutara did not happen in the finale, they had a moment, but well...you know what happened.?? Try to realize that everyone else saw the same show you did.?? There is no need to gloat, throw things in peoples faces, and most of all to flood the boards with topics of: "Zutara is dead, Zutara falls, down with Zutara, ect, ect".?? Also realize that your own ship is still not nesessarily 100%, until both parties come out into the open with the feelings you can not be 100% sure of anything.?? Supporting your ship is fine, but realize that other people may have different preferences and like different pairings.?? Its not wrong to have a different opinion or point of view, so please show some courtesy to your opposition the Zutara shippers.?? They are just as much a fan of avatar as you.

To Zutara people: Zutara did not happen yet, deal with it.?? That does not mean it might not happen, feel free to keep up hope for your ship if that is what you enjoy and it makes you happy, until the end of the series we will not know anything for sure.?? The only thing we know is that the writers obviously love to seriously screw with our heads.?? But my message is again one of restraint.?? We do not need the board flooded with rallying calls to fellow shippers or cries of Zutara will rise again or anything to that effect.?? We also do not need massive arguments pointing out every small detail that might hamper the support of the Kataang platform.?? Try to realize that Kataang has just as many fans as Zutara, except it currently has a lot more support, its not the end of the world though.?? You still have an entire season to go, a lot can happen in 20 episodes.?? Feel free to support your ship, but try to do it in a calm and refined manner.?? Kataang fans are after all, Avatar fans just like yourselves, and they deserve to enjoy their opinions.

I'll try to be friendly, but if you know me, I usually have a last saying,"KATAANG FOREVER!" or something, so...yeah...

its the contant shouting of KATAANG FOR EVER or ZUTARA WILL RISE AGAIN that I want to avoid. Shipping wars do little outside causing flame wars and dividing the fandom, I'd much rather us be one unified group of Avatar fans with differing opinions than a blood thirsty mob of shippers on the verge of civil warfare

Perhaps, just perhaps shipping is altogether useless and romance has little to do with the plot?

I think I can narrow both your summaries down, here it is:

    Kataang: Shut up.

    Zutara: Shut up.

Both ships seem kinda difficult now, but so what?? Did Elvis's fans run out when they found out he had a drug problem? Did Harry Potter fans quit reading when half the important characters died? Did Rae/Rob or Star/BB shippers let it go when Robin and Starfire got together? The answer to all these: NO! The REAL fans stayed and supported them!

    DO NOT ABANDON HOPE, SHIPPERS!!!!!!!

Two characters make up half of all the importnant charcters?

I say that if someone stops reading/ watching a series because something happens that thye disagree with, they were never true fans to begin with. What do they think stop reading it will do, change what happened? The creators have shown the ability to suprise us, I will agree with that.

It was exageration. I didn't mean HALF, I meant, they got rid of Sirius and Dumbledore, both had fan bases bigger than Jupiter. Several people I know BURNED the books....**Points at cousin** Yeah, it's just a book/show, people!!! But still....**Sniffles** How could the writers do that to us??!

Wow...I knew some people who stopped reading, but burned it becasue they died? Never knew it was that bad. Hey, Sirius was my favorite charcter and I was really sad for a long time, but that made the books all the more deep, knowing that no charcter was safe.

Sometimes bad stuff just happens, you have to accept it and like iroh said: "Keep moving and you will get to a better place"

I have a habit of reading the chapter names before I start a HP book, kinda ruined the surprise at the end of Book six with chapter names like "The White Tomb" and "The Phoenix Lament"...it basically spelled out what happend, though it didn't tell me who did it, that caught me off guard

anyway, yeah you could basically summarize the argument down to Shut up for both parties, but I prefer to think of it as a call to live and let live.

Neither party is in a very good postion right now
Kataang: Katara is still ambiguous about her feelings for Aang, one could interpret them as motherly/sisterly if one wanted. And Aang has been forced to let her go to control the Avatar State
Zutara: Pretty obvious here, their star player has switched teams

but hey, thats what fanfiction is for. People should feel free to support their ships, just not to force them down other peoples throats.

I would think romance has an impact on the plot. The twist in the Guru was that Aang gave up his training to be the Avatar to save the one he loves. That was a very stupid decision because if he had mastered it, he would have had enough time to get into the Avatar state and kick everyone's butts with his immense power. And we wouldn't get to see a 3rd season.

If that isn't romantic, then, I suggest you try to get into a lasting and meaningful relationship to experience it.

And yes, I am trying to bump up this message so that it'll remind shippers who want to be immature and flame others. >_>

and I thank you for that. I'm actually sort of impressed with the community, since the finale I think I've only seen 1 or 2 topics devoted to ships and shoving them down others throats and gloating.

I was expecting the top 2-3 pages to be "Zutara this, Kataang that"

You missed the "Zutara falls", "Kataang is OVAH", and "Zutarians-told you so!" threads, huh??
